Good to see these being used after lots of deliberation, I'm glad you're as happy with how they turned out as I am! Can't wait to see they Faran done up.

have you been commuting, in all this lovely weather, soley with the caad??
I will also say…deep down…I irrationally love commuting with a backpack if its not oppressively hot.

• #129
What are the bars on the caad? Look to have a nice sweep

I want more faran content.

Yes... but i was away the last 2 weeks in even-rainier ireland so not a lot. I've been pretty lucky actually. I should get some 700c mudguards for my faran and have that ready to go for rank days
A day with a backpack (admittedly not one designed for cycling) was enough to put me off for another 7 years

same back at you mate
but next week I will have some faran/ witslingers content for you
@D_Mars they're actually not flared, they're Zipp Sl-70 Ergos, and I'll be selling them if you're interested? @ojwithbits has first refusal, he might want them for the faran he is about to buy

hahah the thought of how much I’d get for my Kepler did cross my mind for a few seconds after I saw the eBay listing I can’t lie…
I’ll have to pass on the bars too, would have been perfect a couple months ago but now I’ve desecrated my hip hop fixie and need to rebuild it into a strictly parts bin commuter :(

I want more OFFROAD faran content.

Oh that’s a good point
I rode North London Dort again this year - with @Oddo mate Mike actually, what a lovely guy. I love that ride because I always end up with some lovely people and have a nice time. Well the conditions were rank. It took me maybe 5 soaks of my (stupidly suede) shoes to get the stink off. I barely drank water becuase my bottles were caked, took no pictures for similar reasons. These are all I have.

I also managed to throw myself off the bike by locking my front wheel. Because I’m a fucking idiot. Very nearly new brake pads, I changed rotors the night before to stupid purple ones, and didn’t account for them sitting a bit inboard. So my the end of a wet muddy day with lots of braking, the inside front pad wore through and got pulled right through the calliper, munching through the retaining pin, and wedging between the calliper opening and the rotor.
I had to do the final 15-20km with no front brake, feeling like a complete idiot.

You can't ride offroad in the UK right now, it's the wrong year for it. We're waiting for August 2024 at the moment.

That looks unfortunate, is the calliper OK?

Sad!

seems fine! the most damage was to me ego
the bike was grand for offroad, as you're finding. I think the biggest barrier to mixing road and off road use, now i have 2 sets of wheels, is that I'd like wider bars off road.

I remember in the early days of disc brakes, being amazed that I’d entirely worn through a brand new set of pads in one muddy ride. Never worn through a rim on one ride ;)

Are the silver bars on the Faran the Ritchey ones you mentioned up the thread? cheers
-
• #143
On the Faran now are cowbells, Ritchey Neoclassics are in this post

The main question facing my faran is whether i get a win wing or a fendor bendor.
-
• #145
Well, you have a lot of decisions to make outside of the Faran (which I still want you to take to Japan). I have an unused set of mudhugger gravel huggers I need rid of if they are of interest?

Lake MX238 'grav edition'?! There are dozens of us!
-
• #147
Think I need to get something that will fold so that I can leave them permanently in the frame bag but I appreciate the offer! You should have put them on for NLD surely
-
• #148
Win wings are great! I stick one on my Secan if it looks like rain - keeps everything off me (from the back wheel anyway). Also stops you getting covered in sealant if you have a tyre disaster

That would have been a great idea. I bought them for the awful lockdown instance in 2020 but they didn’t arrive in time and have only thought about them to sell since.
@ElGonzo yes! I thought only I had been suckered in by the suede! I wish they’d put the white cx238 upper on the mx238 sole for a sleek 2 bolt summer shoe. I’ve only recently found out about the mxz176 winter shoe too.

More CAAD content sorry folks
I got out very early doors today - pre-7am which is amazingly early for me, but I had to leave before the kids saw me. I was very glad I did so too, nice empty roads, a really lovely bright morning, finishing up ally pally. Had some music rather than podcasts and felt my brain relax.
And I really enjoyed this bike. The more I ride it the less bothered I am about upgrading things or fettling.
@Tijmen sent me a little bar bag which was perfectly sized. So thanks mate.
I have some time off between jobs when I’ll put smaller chain rings on and shorten the cabling a bit. I have some used DT 240 hubs I’d like to build a set of wheels around, mainly just to learn it while I have the time, probably Kinlin xr26 rims, so I have some tools to buy and I’m reading Roger Musson’s book. Then I think it’s done really.

Right? the colours were decided before I bought the caad, designed around the Faran. We had some discussions about materials he could get in but seeing @Hulsroy bag went with the cayenne and it's great.
@Hulsroy - you're right, I will think of something
