Guess Cav is guaranteed a tour place next year now.
-
• #3128
Doubt it he’s done

Not the same than shouting a subordinate, of sorts. Sagan is a bit of an ass sometimes.
-
• #3130
Hinault?
-
• #3131
I’ve worked in high stress/pressure jobs where shouting at each other is pretty common.
It’s possible that I’m and asshole and everyone I know are assholes too. -

Are Cav just has to turn up next year and grab an early stage victory and then he doesn't even have to bother trying to survive throughout the mountains.
One and done.
(just has to = do a metric fuckload of training to be in the right shape in order to even have a chance of riding in the tour)

Cav has put himself in a pretty good place on a contract point of view.
The sponsor draw of having Cav winning the most tour stages next year must be enormous.
For example ISN has a old sprinter berth opening up…Problem is that at DQS, he’s not going to be guaranteed a spot. It Fabio Jacobsen gets back to form, or Merlier transfers in, then Cav will have to fight for his place.

Cavendish will be gutted though, he must have thought it was all going to come together. Winning Green and equalling the record is an amazing achievement considering what he's been through but that won't be his attitude tonight I guess. Has he been interviewed? I had to go out as soon as the race finished.

He said he made the mistake of moving off Morkov's wheel.

Colleague not subordinate if we’re being picky. He’s a sprinter and a bit stroppy. No malice. Big fucking deal. It didn’t rub me up the wrong way at all (Kelderman at the Giro last year kinda did).
WVA though … is something else.

After all the praise he’s given him, loses faith in Morkov at the crucial moment in the finale. Not the ending many of us wanted, but a great story nonetheless. The most compelling in this year’s race.

I think stroppy is probably the best assessment.
In contrast to social media going on about how he hasn’t changed since he crashed himself out and separated his shoulder in order to DQ holy Sagan… -

Merckx won a 15 man group sprint in 1969, along with three TTs and at least one mountain stage.
Did Hinault ever win a bunch sprint? I know he liked to get involved from time to time. As this classic photo demonstrates:

He did. Beat Kelly and Freddy Maertens in a sprint into Saint Etienne in 1978.

Ooof. Great shot.

I questioned his decision to take WVA's wheel with the other half at the time, was told that he knew what he was doing.

Does WVA have to wear the golden helmet after winning Olympia?

The drugs back then did very strange things to their spines.

he knew what he was doing.
He did. It was a good wheel. I don't think he had enough in the tank to get past though or maybe he wasn't up for tangling with barriers.

He also won on the Champs-Élysées in 1982.

Beating MVDP's dad, no less.

I’ll go with not enough in the tank.
If he had, I think he would have gone to the right before Philipsen got there.Don’t think he was in good condition after the last mountains, was already saying he would like his team to sit in the bunch and rest before the start of that day.
Still, not bad for someone who wasn’t expected to even be there.

not bad
I would be happy just to tour the route. Most racers can only dream of winning a stage. He's won so many of the bastards it's borderline ridiculous. Still would've liked the hollywood ending though. I hope he's happy with his wins and not ruing today's stage.
Did you know WVA shouted abuse at Sagan and got fined last year?
