Here's what we have so far.
Not pictured:
-Original metal mudguards, they're staying black.
-pannier rack and it's little attachment, photos of these are in the thread.
-Sunrace black 10sp cassette, something like 11-42, might swap out for silver Deore, let's see π€
-KMC X10(I think) chain
-Tange Fatty MX headset
What I don't have:
long, silver 27.2 seatpost
brakes. Considering I have the Fatty MX headset, I'm going for braided hoses regardless of which brakes I fit. I have some cheap shimano 4 pots but they're feeling a bit underwhelming now that the other parts are coming together.
Dyna-sys shifter. Almost definitely gonna be XTR.
160mm rotors. I guess floating rotors would suit the build? Open to suggestions
grips. I have some green ODIs, green isn't going to fit the build. Open to suggestions.
bar end plugs. Anyone suggest some tarty ones that aren't nitto?
seat clamp. Quick release. Something that looks a bit like the Paul offering, but not the Paul offering. Last resort is the Box One QR clamp.
What have I missed?

What have I missed?
Pedals and tires π
Pedals I'm not sure on. Default is DMR V8. Nothing with little tiny cartridge bearings.
Tempting to put the same pedals I have on my BMX with a large journal bearing. But they're half a kilo for the pair!
Very open to suggestions.Tires. I have some Maxxis DTH but in 1.6, so too small for the Tannus guards and too skinny for "functional 20"" anyway.
Thinking something 2.0-2.125 -

grips
I have some black ESI extra chunkies I'm looking to move along, would they suit?

• #105
Very much so. Send me location.

Second coat of Chicago Yellow done. Think I'm going to call it a day.
Forgot that I have to sand the fork before I start with the blue paint.

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster...
I've got the same frame that's currently a work in progress. Its still still got the stock forks and wheels (apart from the rear hub, it's a Deore hub laced to the original rim in order to take the 10 speed cassette). I've got the 20 x 2.1 Schwalbe Billy Bonkers on mine, they're a bit of a bastard to get hold of at the moment but I thought they were worth the effort/wait...

I feel like this is such a good frame to build for the price!
Yours looks great and has a similar approach to mine (repaint, bmx bars)

How do you find 1x with no clutch or NW chainring?
Seems to work well on small cassettes in my experience. -
• #112
Not sure about tan walls for this build though. Yellow and tan wall don't always mix. Thinking something a bit 'street' would work tire wise.
Small block 8 would suit it and come in a folding/light version.
I've also considered Mac 2 lights as a low weight option. -

The chain slips off the chainring when changing up or down in the 3 lower gears, a new crankset with a decent narrowwide ring is next on the shopping list...
-
• #114
I'd prefer a silver chainring but I'm having trouble finding one, they're all either coloured or black and silver. If anyone knows of a silver narrowwide let me know...

Nice that blue one. How did you fit the hub in the 130mm dropouts ? File down inner tabs or just cram in?
-
• #116
While I was rebuilding the wheel I swapped the axle spacer on the non drive side for a small washer, then cut the axle down. It was a bit of a faff, and the fit is still a bit tight, in hindsight it probably would be been easier to file the inner tabs down.

One thing I found was the QR front axle is too small for the dropout on the fork. Itβs as though the fork was designed for a solid bolt threaded axle. As a result, the wheel would shift in the dropouts every time I braked hard. By the end of a short ride the wheel would always be heavily slanted over and require the QR to be opened and shut again to re-seat. If Iβd kept mine, I would have raised this with Argos as a fault

Works Components do silver NW chainring, not sure what sizes but I've happily used them on the mtb.

Brooklyn Machine Works - they may well cost more than the rest of build combined
-
• #123
Ah well the Hope bar ends are nice, silver would work.
BMW - not my style, although I did have some Premium BMX ones in that style but in gold, ages ago. And yeah, if you want original ones they're on the expensive side. And they're all silver and battered from what I could find.
Considered the basic plastic Oddyssey (pic)
Then went down a wing mirror rabbit hole and haven't returned.

I have a single Cateye bar end mirror that has been well used. Probably not for this bike.
Looking around at tidy little mirrors in the bar end like this little thing:
https://www.condorcycles.com/products/the-beam-corky-urban-handlebar-mirror..then I discovered Hafny. The mirrors are so proper that I'm seriously considering some big bois. It will be tacky but I think that is this bikes fate, and if I'm going for it, might as well be a solid, good quality mirror.
So, this might end up taking up the bar end space π§π€ -

But before all of that. I've received the ESI grips and they come with some tasteful push fit bar end plugs in a flat gold that'll go on first.
Also thought about the Cane Creek ee barkeep.
