  • If you sign your builder up to their professionals scheme you get another 20% off so it's quite a bit cheaper. That said, maybe no harm in buying the one patio door elsewhere... I'll have a look

  • Ideas on how to box this in while keeping the boiler accessible?

Due to the boiler being so close to the window the boxed in cabinet would need to stop short of the window sill then use a filler piece scribed around the window sill under. The hinged cover for the controls will just have to go.

If we use a hinged door, due to the hinge depths, the door will be slightly in front of the window.

Trying to think of other attachment methods that doesn't involve unscrewing it each time we need access. Too heavy for magnets I think.

  • There are these special clips someone posted. I think it was in response to someone needing a way to attach an access panel to a panelled wall.

    A bit like this?

7kg per clip so 4 should be plenty for any panel.

  • nice, cheers.

    Will float that idea.

  • I think this might be the company that was recommended

Idk how you repressurise your boiler, but mine is from underneath, so allow a long enough panel for access from below.

  • Ueeegghhhh why is that so close to the wall! You'll get moisture build up in that gap and it will get yucky

  • Unlikely with a warm boiler chugging away

  • Could always pain with anti mould paint and use MR MDF as belt and braces.

  • i wouldn't think they'll have a moisture problem.
    spiders however...

i'd probably go with a split batten at the top and bottom and maybe magnets to keep it secure.

  • You'll not get that Howard unless the house is damp.

  • Think this one would work? I don't mind too much as long as it doesn't yellow the wood and it offers some protection from mucky hand prints and other mucky business.

  • Yep, making lovey warm air to readily condense against the cold outside wall.

  • Like wot happens behind a nice warm radiator?

  • there is damp all over the house but behind/next to the boiler is not one of them

  • Theres virtually no heat comes from the case of boilers these days Howard, so its absolutely not an issue.

  • Obvs designed for convection currents, ventilation and movement of air. At the time of the year when this situation is an issue, the rads will be on and the air will be moving.

Side of your boiler and a cold outside wall, not so much.

It’s not going to be dripping, obvs, but unless you’re mindful of cleaning it out it’s gonna get yucky.

Fuck this dull and I’m really surprised it’s in any way controversial

I didn’t suggest there was, that was DBR. Leave the back of a sofa against a shitty old single skin bay window for a year or two and you’ll come back to find black mould on the wall. It’s the lack of ventilation and the temperature diff that’s the issue.

  • Anyone done a retrospective, instant, tray based sedum roof on a flat extension?

  • Ordered some tile samples. The pink matchstick tiles are not as nice as the product images so I’ve got another sample on order.

I’ve also thought about doing the floor in a different tile to avoid the dirt issue with pure white tiles.

Currently looking at this as the three choices (pink ones TBD based on new sample arriving).

Thoughts on the fake terrazzo tiles as well as the white? Will it be too busy in a small room?

Check that the roof will support the additional weight though.

  • I’d avoid fake terrazzo tbh.

Light coloured floor does require commitment to incessant cleaning; we’ve had to make a snap decision to change our Marmoleum order to a darker colour after a friend had our original choice installed in her kitchen recently. It’s constantly filthy, needs hoovering several times a day. Ain’t got time for that shit.

  • sorry to put a downer on it but I ordered these and they are proper shit

  • Having those stick things plus non square plus colour would be too much for me, unless it was a very simple square room.
I like the matchstick though. But all the grout makes me nervous, but you're resident no timescale man, no?
