But guuuuuys, that pack rat is not even low trail. They just did some weird head angle stuff I think??? Still, it is optimised for front loads, just not through low trail.
Anyway, if anyone is seriously in the market for a grey 56cm pack rat plus pacenti brevet wheels then let me know. I have bought a new bike and now need to sell mine. The pack rat is a great frame btw, just too far ahead of (behind?) its time.

Pack Rat is probably the only Surly I support, because it doesn't make any sense. Do it.

I’ve been having my friction shifters slip between gears over time and knew I’d done something wrong
Today I found out I put the spacer the wrong side and realised I’d been an idiot
Third hand tooled the cable so didn’t even have to replace it
Was about to take it to the bike person Monday, money saved.
Other news I have engineered a trade for a c13 saddle but it will have to wait till I get a seatpost which takes oval rails.
going to get a trendy wide foot cage for it and some more ornaments, trinkets and tat. Triangle reflector? Gino rip off light mount? Reflective leopard stickers?? Frame bag??
We’re hesitant to say keeper round here given my past tendency, but I can’t see anywhere bike wise I’d want to go
Feels like my old caad? But steel? Weird thing to say but I guess I mean “it’s comfortable and sporty feeling”. They’re both cross bikes after all
I think other than aesthetic changes my only hang up is the carbon bars, I just keep feeling like they’ll snap in two. Does one ever get over this fear? Every time I want to hop a speed bump or jump it over a kerb, I see myself being spiked on this mister steerer as they give way beneath me.
Maybe some ergons at some point too

If I'm ever brave enough to get some carbon bars, I'll let you know

i've ordered some tat for the cross check
got a ral wedge frame bag, this is in place of a wizard works, it's not exactly what i wanted fabric or mounts wise but it's a good price and fits the theme of the bike, it's also cheaper and easier to move between bikes. in addition to this some of the tat mentioned above, ended up going for a king anything cage as it was on freshtripe and the wide foot wasn't.
love fresh tripe - sams ace and seems to love the wanker bike stuff, or at least he loves selling it to mugs like me
bike should all be ready for thundercross

oh i have some old carbon 20/24 tubs in the post, rim brake tubed clinchers were not esoteric enough

I suppose tubs are the only correct choice for cyclocross

Haha, not sure If he is doing that with everybody but I guess I ordered so much wankery from him already I get a free beer with a every order and a note saying "thank you for all the support".
Re carbon bars: I got some on my road bike and they seem more solid than some aluminium bars I had. Also, it's made of fibres so even if it breaks it usually doesn't snap of clean but kinda just cracks first.

i have not recieved a beer yet! around christmas he sent me a nice coin wallet and a premium selection of desirable stickers with an order which is nice.
i believe he lent a forum member his bike once when they took theirs in for a day service! an excellent volume cutter in a premium rat guise.
apparently it's his sole project in combination with bicycle ambulance in cambridge, talking to him in the autumn he seemed enthusiastic about getting nice parts and was talking of the woes of suppliers making the good stuff hard for him. but seems to be growing all the time!
i'll end the parasocial promotion for freshtripe here
this is also re-assuring about carbon bars, i will ride them down the stairs next time im out

For ages I though it was fresh stripe, but no Fresh Tripe which is such a great name.
He is lovely over email, I certainly don’t have the LTV to get a free beer yet
