They’re absolutely terrible value. The margins must be insane. Think about what goes into a £12k motorbike.
-
• #103
relatively poor value
So? That's true of anything high end. Materials cost and manufacturing time increase dramatically while improvements get exponentially smaller. You can't argue there's no improved function. Your £8k sportbike example is basically a £999 alu bike with Sora, but last I checked they didn't come OTP at 6kg, made of carbon and with electronic shifting, while also looking amazing and being comfortable

It's hardly hypercars or watches, ffs.

What’s the situation with supply/distribution currently?
I’d planned to buy a Surly Rat Pack frame (no availability in the UK but a few still in Germany). I just missed the last one. Ok, plan B is a complete bike - the forum favourite Arkose (D3) ... and the same has happened! I refresh and the size Ms have been panic bought.

Not ok.

So I know that super bikes are all the rage in 2021, and I am 100% #buyer, but all I’m really interested in is the new Emonda ALR in sunset fade. I already have a purple one, which I thought was nice, but this paint is a dream.
PS I know trek are basically the devil
PPS @miro_o I think pack rats are great.

A very clean chain

yeah that was less than 3 miles from the shop where I got it :)
now has an oval purple chainring, lightbicycle wheels and SID Ultimate, genuinely lighter than mid range gravel bikes, with a shock.

Ahh there’s a bunch on close out here in the US, but the largest is a 52.
-
• #120
Briefly thought about bringing one over from the US but it gets silly expensive (for what it is).

Quite fancy this for next year.

Love for the 2021 TCR, no dropped seat stays, relatively decent value and a lovely colour.

When did bikes over £7k start getting specced with Ultegra and Force? Was it this year? I haven't looked at the price of top end bikes for a few years, but they seem to have taken a massive jump.
-
• #124
I notice that the TCR I got in August last year will cost you £500 more this year. Absolutely no difference. (Under 5k now over 5k and Ultegra Di2)
I assume they will cite parts shortage or something covidy but I imagine its actually because they can and will still sell out.

• #125
yeah it seems mad but thats the way things are at the moment, you dont even get microshift under £1k now
These superbeiks are relatively poor value. They sell on exclusivity rather than any function.
