Is your dad a big Fu Manchu Fan? Awesome band!
-
• #311
Excellent work as always!
-
• #312
That is fantastic

The bars are Alpkit Fu Manchu
They’re a fucking excellent band and the reason I bought 2 pairs of those bars when they were knocking them out for like £20 a few years ago.

I like how spotter has an Auteur like nature to all their builds, many make a functional bike but you can always spotter’ ones of theirs
-
• #315
Very nice build.
Only problem I can see is the extention on the bars killing the baskets accessibility.

I asked same question. Bars er temp apparently

Thanks very much everyone, really glad you like it - hopefully my dad does, I've just hidden it in his workshop for when he gets back on saturday as a suprise.
@Jtotheoost Not really his vibe alas, but as @edmundro correctly pointed out they are just what the bars are called. They're the same as other bars
@Maj always so generous with compliments as always, thank you.
@josh the bars were just what I had spare, though I think he will like them. I actually am not worried them covering the basket, my dad only puts a small satchel in with his lunch and some basic tools. He used to happily just have it slung on his back till I got him a basket on his other bike - if he starts using it big things he can chop the middle section of the loop out of the bars, or just run other bars.

Lovely bike.
You might be already all over this, but one thing that I found using those bars with similar grips is that the grips effectively increase the sweep on the bars and made them too swept to be comfy for me. Changed back to esi grips and liked then much better. -

Thanks, and the grips are actually also place holders.
My father has arthritis in his hands and as such is quite fussy about what grips he likes. He used to acutally use those Ergons, but realised they were causing him discomfort, so I got him some extra thick ESIs which he is a complete convert to.
He has a set on my old MTB, which this bike is replacing, so I didnt see much point in buying more - I'll just transfer them over. His old ergons, being lock-on were, ideal place holders till I can make the swap. -

Some updates:
My father really likes his new bike, only changes so far was some 40mm risers which seem to help his hands, and I picked him up one of these V O transporteur bags for cheap
Just bought these
Now to build a bike round them...I bought a frame to go with these forks a 'fixie' frame.
It has reasonably nice dropouts with build in adjusters
and its precrimped to apparently fit 40c (thought I havent tested this yet)
For wheels I'm going to use two front XT hubs, one as a normal front disc hub and then the rear I will convert to an ISO bolt on fixed hub Haven't decided on the rims as yet

Would look the business with something like the Tumbleweed Persuaders/Soma Dream Riser/Stooge Moto imo
Sellers arm, not mine however @dancing james has a inside line on that style if you ask him
