  • recovered from cancer [...] etc

    Mad respect to you

Lovely frame which looks very modern with the low SS/ST joints

Also first bike ever that makes sense with coloured rims

  • As far as I can see it's looking pretty sound yes!

  • Cheers, It is a lovely frame - I'm a sucker for a horizontal top tube
I think the low fast-back stays have been outlawed by the UCI (article 1.3.020 apparently)!
The reason for the red rims was that I borrowed Mavic Heliums and realised how rad the red looked with the heart logo...
The cancer was testicular, I was pretty lucky and didn't need much chemo but it really takes it out of you - I was all done by Easter 2018 and it's only this year that I'm properly back up to any semblance of form on the bike!

  • How much sanding did it take to remove the oxide?

  • Surprisingly little actually. A couple of rubs and I was back to shiny stuff

  • There's a bit of an angry vibe on the forum at the moment and this is the feel-good thread we can all do with. I think you should treat yourself and get the money gun out for a full refurb!

  • Sub’d - I have a campagnolo rear hub laced to red Mavic MA3 rim of it would be of use as spares?

+1 on keeping it cream, love a cream bike at the moment...

  • Just sayin'...

  • if you don't leave it cream, please cut out the MERAK letters and rearrange them to spell KREAM!

  • I thought I knew my fair share of parts, but I've never seen a Modolo brifter before, dang. Amazing bike and story behind it, can't wait to see it finished!

  • Yet another reminder that the best bikes are those that are loved and well used, IMO.

Chapeau for keeping it alive and looking forward to seeing how it develops.

  • Thanks for the support, I think you're right the frame deserves it

  • I think staying with cream is right - despite being tempted by something a bit more glamorous (but not as glamorous as hippy's suggestion)
re: MA3 offer - one of my lockdown aims is to reduce my workshop stash and either build or ditch so I'd best be strong and cut down too.
Loving your builds at the moment, I think we may have similar tastes

  • I may do that anyway - a splendid idea

  • Cheers - They still make them https://www.modolo.it/products/components/modolo-morphos-lever/ and you get a couple of Øs of pulley so you can switch between Shimano and Campag... Glad you like the bike

  • I think it looks good with the bare metal exposed, although the period correct red rims are questionable

  • Didn’t make much progress today as I was working in the lab for about 11h but it’s starting to take shape

  • Decided to go full Cinelli on the cockpit cos I really like the flat profile on the Nerve bars

  • I’m not sure if the chainset is too extra.... I quite like it and was even considering red anodized chainring bolts

  • Dig the new cranks! Another vote for keeping it cream, possibly even as is since the patina and bare alu look great to me.

  • You could spray.bike it ‘Chalk Farm’ in the areas where you’ve taken it back to metal as a temporary fix? as others have said it looks pretty good as is!
I’d be tempted to find some carbon wheels and gumwalls for summer...
understood about the mavic and cheers re projects 👍🏻 Hope to get one finished so I can go for a ride!

  • Cheers, I think you're right.
Aero melts, superlight kit etc make sense when your racing for marginal gains but for most of us a bike you're comfortable on and enjoy riding is all you'll need

  • I think you're right re: carbons and gumwalls, it's something I've been thinking about
