  • 2 is fastest, so 2

  • I hear ya. Its a good group but I don't think it'll suit this build...

  • I'm leaning towards set up two or three right now..

Would really like some downtube shifters for set up three? Would mean changing from drops to alt bars would be easy.

I'll flip a coin when it comes to build day and see what happens.

  • Whatever you can run 1 x with a wide range cassette. Haven't ridden a bike with a front mech for ages until recently. Hated it.

  • I will be going 2x on this bike...it would suit very well and Id like the low range when loaded up.

  • Just run the Sram and slap an 11/46 on the back. 40T up front. You will be laughing.

  • Rival won't go well with 46t I don't think.
Off road, 1x is perfect but the jumps in gears get a bit annoying on a road long distance or touring bike

  • Go bar-end I reckon. I regret dt (never swapped bars, conflicts with framebag, no dt adjusters, shifting miles away from handlebars) and will be going back to bar-end as soon as I can be bothered to do the work

  • Mullets looks dog ugly though! And this bike will not be ugly

  • I'm defs saving the 1x group for my cross bike (transition) for when I have them off road riding days.

Bar end set up is going to be the choice I think...

Just need some new bar tape and a 10 speed 11-32 cassette.

  • I have seen Rival run with a 46t no issue. Run my 11 Speed X0 with a 46t and its mint even though 42 is recommended max.

This bike I have been riding with a front mech has been fine on the road as I just leave it in the big ring. When I go off road though I hate it with a passion now. You have to really think about planning ahead which I'm not used to anymore.

  • option number 2 done properly:

Sub compact with 6603 and SPA rings
    Junior 14-25 cassette

  • I get you.

1x10 is fine for off road but this is going to be my on road bike / light tourer that see some gravel / off road when applicable.

2x10 bar end set up won't catch me off guard that much

  • This has been influcencial to be honest..

Would love to find a duraace 7703 triple to do a sub compact set up with.

  • Marin in current set up...

    Will probably sell soon...

  • really like this 😳

  • I did a couple of audaxes on it, was nice, bit heavy and tyre clearance was tight for 35 + guards.

  • The bar end shifters do not fit. They are too big for the internal diameter of the bars, only slightly and I don't have the resources to sort that.

So set up 2x10 sram rival is a go.

Which is a shame as I was looking forward to using the bar end shifters and xtr mechs.

  • What about this silly solution?

  • Do number 3. I’ve got the praxis 46/32 double paired with 11-36 10sp cluster on my Rove. Drop bars with shimano bar ends mounted to thumbies on the tops. XT 9sp rear derailleur and XT 10sp front. Works brilliantly and suits the bike well. I made this switch from 5700 shifterlevers. The thumbies are all around superior. Cane Creek brake levers because they’re great.

  • that is pretty much the set up I was going to use.

I will use the sram 2x10 set up until I buy some new bars or ream out the current ones to allow the use of bar end shifters.

  • Have you got some calipers to measure ID of bars and OD of bar end shifter?

  • I do yes.

I suspect It's going to be less than 0.5mm

  • I has a trick for you then

  • Does it require a big hammer
