  • You´re out of order.

    You must be new here.

I lol'd at @bikes_knob 's comment, he was spot on.

  • I have spare amounts of both v60 and aeropress filters for those in dire need.

  • You must be new here.

    I am.

  • I too have aeropress filters. I treat them like dried milk - emergencies only!

  • Waitrose, Greenwich, has been picked clean by the preppers.

Tesco Metro, a stones throw away, fully stocked.

Social stratification is a remarkable thing.

  • Hey man, I was joking. I don't know you. I don't think your discourse on the subject has been helpful or insightful, but maybe others do.

Your point about one big pool is indeed true, the UK government is consulting these people, many of whom work in British academia.

  • I've mistakenly introduced her to a world of know-it-all-pricks.

Also suggest she stays away from Twitter

  • I thought you were @bikes_knob ‘s partner and came here for an argument bad you can’t get their attention irl

  • My pension man said most do this automatically and take no account of market conditions. Ie You could be unlucky and it’s transferred the day after a big crash.

  • Switzerland just shut it's borders

Hmmm. I flew in yesterday evening, landing at 7pm in GVA. They're not shutting them very well in that case.

  • Yeah they don’t transfer the whole lot in one day.

In exceptional circumstances- now - the pension manager and the investment team would step in.

  • Fair do´s. Never suggested I could provide any insight, which your wife actually can supply. I was a journo for many years before becoming a stay at home dad. I would just like to get to know this issue better now that I´m stuck with the kids for who knows who long.

Reporters are asking similar questions about the UK´s approach: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/13/uk/uk-coronavirus-response-boris-johnson-intl-gbr/index.html

Again, thanks for posting your wife´s contribution.

  • Shocked to find there are people who still haven't upgraded to a metal Aeropress filter.

  • Is it in stark contrast to what has proven to work in combating this particular virus ? Yes, completely

So you're essentially saying you know better than Public Health England?

How are you qualified to make that statement, exactly?

  • In the absence of a positive test followed by a negative one, is it possible to test if someone's had it and recovered?

  • I'm just installing a 1" threaded headset.

  • Not using the test that is used in the UK, it tests for the genetic material of the virus so can only identify people who are currently infected.

The blood test used in China tests for antibodies, so can identify people who did have it but have now recovered.

  • How come the Internet knows better, the FA knows better, etc...
Listen to advice. We really are a county full of knobs.

    .

  • Reason I ask is there's presumably gonna be a lot of people who contract it and suffer the mild or even non-existent symptoms without being tested.

What society will really need is those people going back about their normal business asap, but I don't see how this is gonna be possible without proper confirmation.

  • Most people who get it from now on won't be tested. But this is covered by the new advice issued on Thursday.

If you have the symptoms (a high temperature, or a new, continuous cough) you self-isolate for seven days. It's seven days because most people will no longer be contagious after seven days with the symptoms. You are then free to go about your normal business, if you feel up to it (not guaranteed at all with coronavirus).

It will be impossible to test everyone who gets the virus as the situation escalates.

  • Where does this idea come from that the shutdowns in other countries are for containment?
I am mostly following the German news and it's clear from the statements that they expect
a similar outcome like the UK government does but the shutdowns are meant to delay
and not overwhelm the health system like in Italy.

  • Big props to the cashier in Tesco this morning telling a youngish couple that it’s the end of the world and beans won’t save them with a grin on his face, as they were buying five four packs of beans amongst other things.

They didn’t know what to say, but I let out a cheeky laugh. Only seemed to confuse them more.

Had to buy own brand ketchup though which soured my experience.

  • Just flown back from Austria on a full flight. Lots of sniffing going on though I’m certain that’s because of the week in cold conditions most of the plane have likely just had. Two of the friends I was staying with decided last night that they definitely had Covid-19 as they felt like shit, though were happily walking around the house. We all repeated to them it was more likely the late nights of drinking 80% Stroh and then pounding beers on the mountains that was likely making them feel like shit. I’ve got a slight tickle in my throat and also certain it is nothing more than a cold in my tired and weakened body, though think I’ll skip the Gently Bentley Audax I’d signed up to for tomorrow and follow the advice from the organisers who are asking ‘any riders if they are feeling unwell not to ride’.

Saw plenty of people with completely pointless masks throughout the airport though, particularly the bloke on the Gatwick shuttle who was holding the mask to his face, dropped it, caught the inside of the mask and then placed it right back over his mouth to breath it all in.

  • By my understanding Germany is further along than the UK. It could be (seems to be?) that the UK will shutdown down schools and other things at a later date when the impact is thought to be more meaningful?
