This is excellent.
Thanks.

some medical expert kept saying on radio 4 last night we needed people to be affected to build up long term resistance to corona virus, does that mean we can expect more variations of this flu in years to come, worse more dangerous versions and we need to have some kind of tolerance
is that why boris is doing fuck all ?
-
• #3104
We can and probably will all catch it and develop tolerance. The important issue now is that we don’t all get it at once.

Children are always an at-risk group in respiratory illnesses.
The CMO and CSA explicitly said yesterday children were not an at risk group, which formed part of the rationale for keeping schools open.
What source data are you looking at to say they are an at risk group? I skimmed the article in the NJEM, and didn't say anything pertinent to children being at risk in the other links you posted.

this flu
It's not a flu.
-
• #3107
Children are always a risk group with respiratory illness, I'm guessing because they're small and their systems are small and it's easy to disturb them.
I mean. I wouldn't want to trust just anyone off the interweb on a bike forum. Might trust someone I know who has had medical training and is on a bike forum though.

I'm not calling into question @lowbrows knowledge. I'm just noting that it goes against what the CMO said yesterday. Did you watch the press conference with CMO yesterday?

• #3109
Still blows my mind that they have allowed a 3 days rave in pontins to go ahead. Genuinely concerned that my housemate is going to bring it back as I am likely to have to attend my uncles funeral very soon.

Children are at risk of catching and carrying, low risk statistically with regards death: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-age-sex-demographics/

Those numbers does make the reactions so far seem a bit drastic .
Spanish flu killed 50 million plus in a malnourished, impoverished world and was underreported.
That one killed more younger people this covid-19 seems to spare them .
One of the obvious differences is that we know every little detail on an almost real-time basis , so we rush out and buy stuff.
Billions lost of value of stocks
Yet it seems to be tailing off in China , I realise the Chinese numbers may not be reliable but if it was the opposite, with high death rates and mass burials etc , could even they keep that quiet ?
Couldn’t it be seen by a satellite?
Probably all questions easily answered by those in the know .
On another note , I was at a gig last night , a few hundred doing the mosh thing , secure in their own youth .It was kind of reassuring and made me smile -

Have you actually addressed it directly with your flat mate?
-
• #3113
Thanks, the paediatric stuff is particularly helpful for me right now. Given this:
Children are always an at-risk group in respiratory illnesses.
Does it seem odd to you that there is no specific guidance for children provided by the NHS/PHE?
Edit: Just saw later posts, if anyone has a link to what the CMO said that would be helpful.

No haha, I was hoping boris would provide some leadership and put an end to such things.
I’ve made a few serious/ not serious remarks.

What happened to "Play the ball"?
-
• #3116
Very British of you. If it's a problem, tackle it. I suppose a British solution would be to self-isolate yourself from your housemate between them returning from the event and going to the funeral.

Just got an ocado delivery for next Thursday. Thank the lord.

But worried how this is going to affect my kitchen extension though
-
• #3119
Yeah man I heard it said that kids who can deal with the virus well can also transmit it so taking them out of school just displaces them somewhere else and they'll be spraying their spores in shops, cafes, elderly relatives homes etc
-
• #3120
Hearsay but I read somewhere that Chinas decisive shutting down of the virus is just damming the river with chopsticks (my analogy there) and mass infection is better long term

What ball have I not played? All I asked for is what was informing lowbrows view in particular, as it seemed contrary to what the CMO said. I know lowbrow is a doctor - that is why I am interested to hear more from him. Asking for information doesn't mean I am saying he is wrong. It is fairly simple stuff.
Then Damo joined the conversation in a way that implied I was out of line to ask, which i found frustrating.
What you can and can't say in this thread , and who thinks they are entitled to police it, is fucking bizarre.

Tbh when I logically think about it i’m sure it will be fine, difficult to not go down a anxiety rabbit hole though with a few things on my mind, it’s crazy how real this has got so quickly.

What ball have I not played?
Maybe I'm misreading the tone of your post, but this:
Did you read what I wrote and do you usually have comprehension difficulties?
I'm not really sure why the chirpy response was needed, other than it is your default. Is at odds with your earlier exhortations to make it about the facts, and not the person.
Glass houses and all that.
[Edit for your later edit]
What you can and can't say in this thread , and who thinks they are entitled to police it, is fucking bizarre.
I'm pointing out our apparent hypocrisy, and now apparent disingenuity.

The president of Brazil has tested positive.
He had dinner on Saturday with the president of the USA.
Fingers crossed.
Fingers crossed for what?
The Pro 14 Rugby has already been suspended too.
