  • We're cyclists. We love a bit of marginal gains don't we?

And gear! Cycling gear! Head gear! All the gear, no idea...

  • Thing is with masks, you need to take a fresh one out every time.

Having one, wearing it to the shop after you coughed in it is still a bit better than not having one and coughing over people accidentally. But I am curious if they did a compare of a dirty one VS none at all and coughing in tissue/elbow.

But I understood it should be one freshly washed mask every shop sessions, and you have to store it in a safe sealed place. Otherwise it just gets dirty at home and you drag things in.

Tempting to sow one at home with a logo on it though... lfgss rainbow? :)

  • Every time I’m out and I see someone in a mask - and around our way that’s like 40% people - I want to cock punch them

  • Pls don’t shop me I haven’t actually cock punched yet

  • But I understood it should be one freshly washed mask

    What temperature?!

Is 30 degrees fine? Or will it only die at 60?

Do you have to wash the masks on their own? If you wash them in 30, with your clothes, are you simply not just covering your clothes with the virus?

  • I may well be wrong here, but the difference in our arguments seem to be the difference between me thinking in terms of the fluid mechanics between two people as opposed to how you might be considering how to best prevent infection for one particular individual.

If someone in front of me exhales through a soiled DIY mask that's not great but surely the fabric still blocks a significant percentage of their germs? Of course, it would be better if they wore a clean DIY mask, but surely the amount of germs in the air is still less than someone breathing entirely freely.

  • TBH, if people let them get away with spinning it and buy into it, then they are the ones that are worthy of scorn. The government has been utterly dire throughout all of this and the cost is in life. But theres nothing can be done for 4 1/2 years, is there?

Bit like Piers Morgan ripping into ministers - which is good, as its what needs to happen. But he'll still go and vote for them, won't he?

  • If it can live at most 3 days outside the body, then if you have a mask for monday and so on, then you should be ok.

BUT dont mix them up. And dont store them together. I would mark them by the day. And seperate them! Dont mix them else it just passes it to each mask.

I was thinking 7 pegs in the wall by the door marked by the day. Masks too. So Monday will only be used 7 days later.

  • blocks a significant percentage of their germs

    Fluid dynamics and airflow...

  • If you guessed how many of the 400k gowns promised by the gov last week were actually on that plane from Turkey that eventually landed and your answer was "less than 10%" you get a prize.

  • you get a prize

Please let it it be a gown!

  • Dressing gown

  • exact parallel of cycle h*lm*ts

As mentioned upthread, the masks issue makes for a nice game of cycle helmet parallels bingo.

  • It's an absolute shit show, even more so because people have stopped keeping their distance in stores

They never started in this country, so we won't have that problem.

  • With all the bike thefts from hospitals of late.

Does anyone know on here know someone or know of someone that works at a hospitals cycles and doesn't have insurance? I will gladly pay for insurance til the end of the year.

after quitting in february...guess i now have an excuse to cave in to cravings!

  • Dressing down, I can fully support.

  • A certain part of the media appears to be trying to get people to start ignoring distancing measures and to go back to work

  • That is both wonderful and a great suggestion.

    Anyone?

  • Just stopped off in the supermarket; all the forced distancing stuff is being removed. That said the security guard told me that as soon as it gets busy it’ll be back again.

  • A certain part of the media appears to be trying to get people to start ignoring distancing measures and to go back to work

Can you provide an example of that please ?

  • But more likely to die from it according to other studies

  • That's it, you could be right and maybe it won't really matter that much if it is not clean.

Way I am looking at it, may as well be picky if you go through the hassle. If it is going to be government advice, I hope they will be clear.

    So we have:

No mask and breathing out unfiltered
Unwashed mask with maybe some icky virus, but might still be better than none. I don't know.
Freshly washed mask, which I guess is best?
