All good tips. I’m especially keen to avoid being paralysed! That’s what I found really difficult about DJing with streaming. I found that I’d have a few tracks in mind, but quickly run out of direction and end up stopping.
With vinyl I have my own system with is a sort of blend of year/label (think I might find a way to include label in file name if it doesn’t get too unwieldy, or the Denon software’s metadata doesn’t make it easy to quickly look at labels). When I do a mix, I tend to flick through and pull out anything that might go into the mix I have in mind, then dry running here and there to figure out the final set list. I think I need to go about digital sets similarly with playlists.
I’ve heard FLAC mentioned as a favoured file format in lots of places. I’m not quite sure why, but I have this sense of it being a bit esoteric. I’ve never made a FLAC file in my life, but creating WAVs seems like overkill.
Does a better PC rip CDs faster? Or is that a pretty standard procedure? I pulled out everything I need to work through and hopefully can do an hour hear and there while also messing about with the Prime GO, which has arrived already. Will need to wait until after kiddy bedtime to play with it, though.

I would be very up for that! Maybe one of the forum beers pubs would be up for hosting something. Will have to have a think. Day/family friendly would be ideal for me too.
I used to love the Gadget show. The competitions they ran were crazy.
The DDJ is great, it’s just much more of a quick-start toy that you can pull off actual DJing on, plus learn and try all sorts of digital tips and tricks. It relies on your phone/tablet and isn’t without it’s limitations - you could prepare and record a digital set with it, but it would be a botch and it’s not what it’s designed for. Now I’m back into it all more, and want to record more and think about playing live, the Prime GO seemed like a good upgrade. It’s also got split-cue so I can make no noise in the evening while practicing. I’m planning to sell the DDJ now - PM me if you’re interested.
Will check out your mix cloud link!

I hope your local bottle shop gives you a healthy loyalty discount. This has made me very thirsty.
That’s a good shout on twitch. Will have to look into that.

The form comes back quickly! Be fun to have a b2b set. I used to love doing those with my mate DJ Ornsman.

Nice, thinking of some kind of forum open deck session. Maybe at one of the forum drinking spots or Gillett Square, some point in the new year in the post corona world. Would be ace if we could link up with you for the sound.

Sounds good to me, Gillett Sq would be a wicked one to do.

So anyone here on Twitch?
I've been amazed at the tatent on there and some pretty big names too: even Keith Shocklee.
Some nice production too, green screen and overlays etc: Subsetgetsit for one.

I still need to try, but hard to find the right time with a young family at home almost all of the time I’m not working.
Got a day off next month so might get the app in preparation and do a stream off my phone of me doing a set on the Prime GO in my living room. Won’t be especially pretty and will probably be a weekday afternoon, but gotta start somewhere.
The sound will also be a bit shit as it will just use the phone mic. I’ve seen midi-style boards that let you input the video and audio signal and offer plenty of control over it all. Hopefully I can eventually justify that sort of set up.

Yea twitch not switch. Soz shows what I know about it. Just kind assuming you can set up a stream/channel and people can tap in do half hour each kind of thing.
@Scilly.Suffolk Are they 'on here' still? Maybe add 4.5k disposable income to the list.

Multicam streams are definitely doable, is showing different streams on one channel.

Using a step ladder for my phone, here’s a quick mock up of what it would all look like. You can see the speakers under the TV where the sound will come from.
Does Twitch record what you’re doing for offset viewing?
As I’d be using the phone, wouldn’t be able to engage at all with anyone listening, if that matters. Maybe I’ll just get some cheap equipment anyway. Will look into it.

Does Twitch record what you’re doing for offset viewing?
You mean post-stream VOD?
Certainly some channels post them, but not all. So my guess is that it may be a function of whatever you use to capture your strim, rather than TTV itself (so much like you would use YT).
Whilst your set-up sounds like a good way to just give it a go, I imagine the quality will be quite "modest".
And personally, what makes TTV so much more appealing than YT, is the engagement with the DJ. Which doesn't mean necessarily replying to everything in chat, but eg some background on the track, an amusing anecdote about the time the cat shit in your record bag etc etc.
Just watching someone spin is pretty dull.
So if you do take it up more fully, I would prioritise that.
Didn't even know this thread existed. I sold my 1200s and DJM500 when I left Oz (still got a couple of boxes of techno at my folk's house). I've had a couple of old CDJs (bought one off someone on here many years ago) and a Vestax something or other. As you can see it doesn't get any use these days...
My mate, who used to run parties back in Melb has started playing again in London on twitch.tv which is kinda cool to 'sort of socialise' while in lockdowns. Have you lot considered doing streamed sets on twitch? It's a bit more interactive than just uploading a recording because I can slag him off live :D
