• Ymmv but I always found those quite hot and uncomfortable for doing anything physical.

May have just been me running hot when I was younger tho.

  • Definitely do this too.

I do try and remember to switch to tracky-bs and overalls. But that only works if it's planned vs "I'll just quickly do [......] while I've got 5mins".

  • My Wickes have some Dickies ones on sale and B&Q had some sort of padded work shirt on sale too - but I didn't look at them so Idk price or brand.

  • Andersen Andersen surely is golf club territory?

Spent the whole winter in my full zip that I got from my wife for my 40th birthday, quality is amazing.

  • Only ever bought on sale, in my defence....but sure, if they had an Argyll pattern...

  • Carhartt knee pads…

I have their dungarees and there is a pocket for knee pads but it appears it is specific to their own pads which look like they roll up really small to get through the opening. I have some dickies pads but they aren’t compatible.

No where in the UK appears to carry the carhartt ones except Amazon and they are too expensive for what they are. Has anyone found something that will fit?

  • Probably not the right audience, but I cut spare foam carpet underlay to size for the knees of my Dickies overalls.

Got to say I like that it's thin and subtle. Doesn't restrict movements and takes the edge off. I'd probably wear pads if I was spending the day tiling a floor tho.

I'd be tempted to buy some thin memory foam and DIY.

  • Cant you just cut the hole larger on them to fit it.

  • +1 for ex-military kit for working outside.

I got a gore tex Austrian army jacket for about £40 which keeps the rain off a treat with the odd wash in Nikwax.

Knee pads are a revelation. I’ve been using offcuts of Kingspan for nearly two years until I gave up and got some trousers with a pouch for knee pads.

  • I always just unpicked some of the stitching to fit some snickers ones in there tbh.

  • +1 for snickers or other proper kneepads. Cheaped out on all sorts of DIY solutions until I tried a proper pair. Huge difference.

  • I’m a redbacks convert these days (which you could fit in the carhartt’s too no doubt). Just snagged a new pair for £15 on eBay. Less sweaty than other knee pads by a lot, and they’re just generally less irritating to permanently have in my work trousers (which is a necessity).

  • Yep, I have an ex Irish police jacket for dog walking, 100% waterproof, and I can clip a light where the walkie talkie should go… only downside is that it doesn’t have low pockets.

  • I've had Filson trousers wear through in the crotch in under a year. At that price I'd hope for better. Old Town/Tin House trousers (which aren't really work wear per se but modelled on old fashioned working men's clothes) do far more robust canvas trousers and at a lower price point, although you do have to wait 6 weeks or so for them to get around to your order...

  • You need to work on your thigh gap and or sweaty nether regions

  • Gusset or GTFO.

  • "Work on your thigh gap" doesn't really sound like the Filson mountain man demographic talking.

  • Look perfect
    Ordered a pair last night
    Cheers

  • Can be trimmed to size easy enough.

If you find them sitting to one side or other of your knees, turn them sideways (ie so they are wider than they are taller).

  • I doubt these are dandy enough for most readers, but I won't wear them again and seems a shame to bin them: forum dono + P&P.

Bodywarmer is GC save for some paint. Trews have a couple of cuts but are heavyweight, with plenty more life in them. B&B weren't worn much, missing a button.

    EDIT
Bodywarmer and bibs gone. Found some green/yellow hi-viz trousers for all you cheesy quavers.

  • Very happy with my Yarmo crew neck jumper. So far i've taken out the bins, emptied the hoover, broken down some pretty heavy duty cardboard boxes and stood outside in the cold talking to delivery drivers about the weather/traffic/state of the world all without the slightest bit of discomfort.

  • I hope you prepared a Risk Assessment and Method Statement/Safe System of Work before doing any of the above, otherwise it doesn't count for the purposes of this thread.

  • I would take exception to your use of the word 'work', it doesn't relate to the purposes of this thread.

  • ^ underrated comment

  • I don't think 4 minutes is enough time to decide whether it was underrated or not.

    I rate it.
