  • I assume it’s the sum of the straight lines between tracking blips as opposed to an estimate of the roads ridden between them.

  • Yeah, it's the total distance between tracker updates from start to latest I reckon. The straight line joins each ping together and the site is measuring that.

  • that metric puts @rj about 150km ahead of 2nd place but i guess it doesn't really translate accurately

  • On Fiona's page, her statistic plots are quite vague, tracker maybe didn't fire so often. rj's is more detailed. Not sure if that contributes to the difference.

  • i noticed that - annoying as it makes it harder to judge stops properly.

  • Same with hippy's stats, they will be borked when he gets his new tracker on.

  • They're prescription

  • Sad that Björn ist out after such a fast start.

Exciting to have a woman leading, I hope she has a great ride.

And not having frrt is annoying. I would actually pay for it!

  • Yeah too bad about Björn but the rest of the race looks very promising.

  • Those very high temps took a pretty heavy toll in last year's race as well.

  • In past years the high temperatures came at the end of the race when riders had adjusted but were tired. I wonder whether immediate immersion to such heat will cause a greater or lesser scratch rate. Certainly the idea of no dogs when riders are exhausted sounds positive as well as better roads.

Just seen this, hope Lulu doesn't run into any problems mentiined, she's a dead nice Manc and we sorted her bike out for her.

  • I beg to differ. Last year was hot from day 1 and the next few days with temps between 35 and 40.

  • Thanks, Strava didn't come up in any of my searches (or I may have missed it).

  • It's annoying that hippy's tracker isn't working. Now we have to rely on satellite imagery to find out where he is.

  • Fiona seems to be flying on a bike.

  • Hippy spent the night in Lapovo. So he'll ne vaguely near Samuli 84

  • I beg to differ. Last year was hot from day 1 and the next few days with temps between 35 and 40.

This year it is looking to be much cooler once they hit France. That may help those that make it that far.

  • Well, rj's now clearly in the lead, as the different routes they have been taking have converged again. He's closely followed by Fiona Kolbinger and Ben Davies.

  • There is a reasonable chance that all but a couple of riders will reach CP2 before the leader hits CP3.

  • Paul Crenson stopped for 12 hours at the end of the CP2 parcours last night but has been on the move for the past seven hours albeit slowly.

  • My “race” is pretty much over. My Achilles really flared up yesterday. I nearly scratched on the parcours by not going up the second climb bit. Iced and tried to sleep as much as possible, a crazy wedding party did t help half of that. Changed position a little this morning, targeting only 200 for the day, let’s see how that goes. It seems it’s a case of can I finish now.

  • rj's reached Slovenia, and Fiona Kolbinger has put 15km into Ben Davies today.

Really I should be doing some work.

  • dont give up! keep trying new positions till something sticks. failing that drink more beer and slow down.

  • keep going goat, you have done fantastic already, take it steady.
