  • Bottle cages have arrived.

  • If you want to ride this thing on Saturday I’m going somewhere - probably Epping but maybe north downs

  • Keeping up with the Joneses. I’ve bought a cannondale frame.
Not full suss tho. Not any suss tho. 😔
    Still, it was 50 quid

  • are you working hard or leaving your bike here? That (specific) talbot makes me really jealous

  • I was in Rome the last two days, here today - will be cycling home.

Me Julie's parents are here on Saturday, from 11 - so will be running round the flat hiding boxes and hoovering I expect. Sunday? I'm collecting that Fox shock pump at lunch so would appreciate some help in dialling things in, if you are free.

  • Parenting on Sunday. Could do something in the evening next week though.

  • Right, haz shock pump. 300 psi in each end and done?

  • Higher, you want full bounce and to get airborne

  • Ok, 85kg this morning (!) so 86 PSI in the front.

That information is very easy to find - Fox publish a table, and it's in (only the German language section!) of the manual.

But there's no table I can find to give guidance on the correct air pressure for my weight - why is this?

  • For the rear? They can’t provide it because the different suspension designs apply varying forces.

Do it by sag - start at 200 and work down (probably)

  • Ok, I think I've worked out that you have to set rear pressure from sag.

Front I've aired down slightly to 84, rear is 150. That gives me "plush" sag settings (from the German part of the manual).

  • I've set the rebound (number of clicks) to ze manual recommendations, also.

    Now - what tyre pressures?

  • Rear is 2.25, front is a 2.4

  • I’m also counting this shock as a 57mm - not 100% on where I’m measuring from/to however.

Just put a bit more in the rear, at 16mm of sag now I reckon (160psi).

  • what tyre pressures?

Try 1.5bar front and 2.0bar rear as a starting point and see how you feel. That's my hard pack setting proportioned down to your weight.

  • 26psi rear and about 22 in the front

  • That's exactly what I run in 2" at a hair over 60kg, should I go lower?

  • Hmm, my Lezyne pump won't show pressure (air leak somewhere) and my SKS Rennkompressor thinks that those pressures are too low to show.

I've stuck 35 psi in as I can get that to appear on the gauge, will try to find my digital pressure-gauge.

  • It's all very personal and depends on things like rim width and tyrewall construction and how and where you ride. Also a 2.4 tyre is quite a bit bigger than a 2".

Basically, go for a pressure as low as possible but that doesn't feel unstable or squirmy and doesn't hit the rim on every rock and root you plough through. Tubeless facilitates lower pressure.

@dammit 35 won't be much funnier offroad, keep letting air out until you notice a negative impact.

  • Ok, found gauge, much soft.

  • So, what's the first upgrade?

  • Already has a dropper so won't need to get the seat lowered...

  • A more skilled rider.

  • A more skilled rider.

    Where can you purchase these?

    Asking for a friend....
