You're about 400 comments too late.

The Cannondale Scalpel SE 2 29er Has XC Roots and Trail Bike Attitude
I'm pretty jealous. It looks the perfect bike for most people on here. Unless you live for the black runs at trail centers.

Haha, flame on. I read the first few pages, then realised the amount of spam and skipped ahead to see what eventually happened. I don't think you need to live in Whistler to appreciate not being thrown OTB when riding trails. 69,5 is still quite steep and not really needed unless racing. I rode Yeti's "XC" bike the other day, and it was amazing. 2 degrees slacker than this, and a bit longer.

Have you considered mtb skills training?

It's 68.5, not 69.5.
A 66 degree head angle didn't stop me going otb trying an ill-advised drop while bikepacking, funnily enough, nor have I died riding numerous rigid retro bikes with 71 deg head angles down reasonably steep chutes.
Pinkbike is that way >>>>>

Which would put the front axle a whole 17mm further forwards. If that's all that's stopping you from going OTB, you be doing something wrong.

Right! Shall I throw the box away?

No really, 69.5 isn’t steep - check out the trek a few pages back at 72.
Remember this is an FS bike and the head angle stays reasonably constant as it goes through it’s travel - unlike a hard tail.

I had a 65 degree head angle hard tail before it was cool. 2010.

Yeah but was it chuckable tho?!

I have thrown away the box. This is the time for you all to say, en-masse, "It's too small, send it back"

26", so chuckable. Debatable whether the trail came alive though.

What the fuck happened in here?

It'll be fine. Fitting an 80mm stem ( if you have to ) won't kill the handling on an XC/trail bike.

Now, bottle cages - the most important decision. Which ones?
So you bought a XC bike? That's like mountainbiking without having fun - unless you're aiming for the Olympics or bought a more progressive one with a slacker headtube. The hype is real. Long reach, short stems and a slacker HT is more fun if you ever plan to point the bike down a trail. I do believe in having less travel though, I cope with 95% of what my friends on 150mm full suspension bikes do, and I'm on a hardtail with a 67 degree HT.
