  • Was a temp fix to fix some rattly PDW mudguards. Made the tyre rub the zip tie. Nothing pointy to hand as commuting. Not my finest hour I must admit :)

  • Squash the first ziptie with another or turn headphones up.

  • Something like a Leatherman Squirt or Style is ~ 50g with pliers plus other useful stuff like scissors and a knife.

  • I think I have the non-stabby one. I can't remember which, both those sound familiar.

  • Scissors for trimming pubes can also be found at most hotel receptions...

  • I laughed because I know you’re not ducking joking. Grim bastard.

  • Yeah as someone else said spare cables if you use them too.

Also make sure your rim tape is good. Spare spikes and nipples is an shout too.

  • And that's just the shit I reveal to the public... imagine what I actually censor! :S

  • Also make sure your rim tape is good

    Grr

  • Arup cut a few spare spokes for me with nipples so should be good on that front. Rim tape is new.

  • I don't actually bother with spare spokes.
If I hit something hard enough I untrue/detrue? a @scherrit built wheel, I've got bigger problems to deal with.

  • Yeah, he did it cos I asked him to not cos he suggested it. They're built up with Sapim Strong spokes used for ebikes!

  • Are you expecting trouble? :)

  • You could also just snap a spoke by bad luck. They weigh nothing and take no space.

  • Yeah, was going to interject to say the same, I nearly did this the other day when I rode over the most deadly cycling obstacle of all - a small stick

  • Are you expecting trouble? :)

    Ha ha, probably!
You shouldn't have mentioned the wild dogs to Emma though. She's convinced I'm going to get hunted down and eaten by a pack of rabid dogs.

  • If you take spare spokes the most likely ones to go are drive side on the rear. So how are you going to get your cassette off to replace?
Better to make sure your wheel is well built and not likely to fail.
According to @cycleclinic who built my wheels, hitting potholes doesn't typically cause spoke breakage.

  • One spoke isn't going to make any difference to my 32h disc wheels.

So, how many spokes do you carry?

  • She's convinced I'm going to get hunted down and eaten by a pack of rabid dogs.

    You wouldn't be the first.

  • Exactly. That's why I don't bother with spare spokes or spoke tools.

  • I've gone with the thinking that if you manage to make it to a bike shop they have a spoke of the right length.

  • Better to make sure your wheel is well built and not likely to fail.

    Mine hopefully are!
I'm taking 3 spares with the thought that they'll survive if one breaks but would take it to the next shop to have fitted at next opportunity and at least they'd be the right length already for the shop to fit.

  • Not suitable for anything built after WWII though. :P

  • This is cool. Enjoyed the description too:

The NBT2 is NOT suitable for use with super lightweight [stupid-liteTM] alloy racing frames, where the deraileurhanger already self destructs with normal use.

Prior to first time use it is recomended to check with conventional tools that the lockring hasn't been tightened way over the recommended torque by some hamfisted mechanic, to prevent overloading the dropout.
