Frank. That is awful but I am glad they spotted it early. Heal fully and quickly!

Sorry to hear the news. Speedy recovery.
Have them put in an extra big artery for extra Watts. Bio-hack for marginal gains.

Thanks everyone!

I'm really sorry to hear this Frank - I hope it all goes well

Sorry to heat this Frank, it really sucks but I wish you the very best recovery.
(and selfishly hope you will lend us dot watchers some expert insight during the race!)

Blimey @frank9755 that’s a bit of a shock, hope you recover from any op quickly.

Paid remainder of entry fee and tracker deposit today.
Even doing ultra cycling cheaply (for the first time) is expensive.
Going to have a fire sale of some frames in the next few days to fund my eating expenses.
Looking forward to it and to meeting some of you along the way! :)
Still only done 5000km for the year though but fitness is getting better. -

You're not wrong there.
Who did you end up going with for insurance? -
• #786
Which insurer has anyone else gone with? It looks as though Yellow Jersey are the only ones who will insure your bike as well but this outs the price up to around £170. Think might just go for the travel insurance which does not cover stolen/broken bike.

Check if it’s covered on home insurance. Sometimes is.
ETA were the go to but think they changed.
Can try dogtag. I use sports travel insurance (howdens/ pj hayman), eta were the cheapest by far but no longer.

Got a quote from Europ Assistance (Belgium) for only 30 euro.

Looks like Rhino is serious about attempting the Triple Crown as he calls it: Indypac, TABR and TCR.

I have to admit I underestimated the guy a bit, still riding in 12th in TABR. -

went with adventuresinsurance.co.uk. £71.76.
They have a special Cross Continental Endurance Racing category. My backup front light came today.
Nearly half price too.

Did that insure the bike too?
-

Only up to £1000.00. Not sure what the rebuild cost would be but shudder to think but would probably half of what most competitors bikes are worth.
I'm more worried about the chain stays cracking again though. But lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place right?
Just ordered a new Anker powerbank and USB fast multiple charger too. -
• #793
Okay, that does look quite good. None of the others will insure the bike bar Yellow Jersey and they are twice the price!

Did you use the quad lock on TABR? If so, any good and can you turn the centre to mount on aero bars?
-
• #795
Yes, yes, it will click in portrait or landscape

Did I miss a notification that the banned roads map was going to be updated? I assumed that it was static but I had a look today and there's been a couple of big changes.
Notably the roads are no longer bans but warnings. -

This came with the edition of the race manual which came out when you paid your final instalment. However, it was not clear to me that it was updated. There is a change to one of the roads in I think Bosnia.

Right, I've got what I consider to be a pretty decent all on road route to CP1 done. Stand by for much failure :) Just want to get going now, I'm pretty excited by this all if you can't already tell.
ONE MONTH TODAY!!! -

The map has definitely changed for me between the email inviting us to pay the final installment and now. I'm more worried that I missed out on the information that it was going to be changed and if it will be changed again.
I hadn't had a chance to look in the past week so it came a surprise.
Doesn't matter anyway as it will be checked daily to finish the route planning. -

Watch out for banned cycling roads in Germany. Pita.
Awww man, that totally sucks. I'm gutted for you.
Hope you've got a good group of family / friends round you as hospitals are the pits. Get well soon!
