Oh dear. We have a problem.
frrt with its useful and easy to digest presentation of data does not appear to operate beyond 29 days and so is not providing any more information on Neil’s ride. We are left instead with trackleaders and his occasional posts on Instagram.
So yesterday, nothing on Instagram but steady progress on trackleadrs. Halfway through Hungary. He doesn’t appear to be riding through the night anymore but does appear to be upping his distance and time on the bike. Will try and analyse trackleaders a bit more for tomorrow.

Maybe he's solved his issues (or got sick of the stick he was getting on here - I mean everyone is on here aren't they)?
-
• #3204
Great stuff, thanks
-
• #3205
He might be worried that if skinny races again next year he could be lapped

• #3206
LOLs

The hares and the tortoise. 97 had to scratch this year and Neil is still going, good luck to him. His gram photography has now gone a little melancholic and black and white also.
-
• #3208
Yeah but he didn't make the time cuts so he's out of the race anyway. I mean, by all means persist if you can get the time off work or whatever but you're now touring, probably on shitty 'fast' roads. Actually, if he was stopped for 2 days he's automatically scratched anyway - was he ever not moving for 2 days?
-
• #3209
Sure, just like the idea he's sticking to it.
was he ever not moving for 2 days?
Think his longest break is a day or so... -
• #3210
Yeah, I do like some of the stragglers. Depends on what's happened and how they're going.
Not interested in the two Italians that were just taking the piss the other year but Neil is at least trying and a bit of a curiosity so I'm keen to see him finish now. -

Yeah but he didn't make the time cuts so he's out of the race anyway
I like that in SRMR, if you don't make the control times, you are automatically scratched!
-
• #3212
That would only annoy me if I missed a control but then made it to the others.
-
• #3213
Yeah but he didn't make the time cuts so he's out of the race anyway.
Just checked the Rules and there is nothing about that whatsoever. Indeed, after CPs have closed (including the finish) aren't brevit cards stamped in the hotel/bar at that location?
frrt is showing Neil as being inactive for two days but trackleaders is showing him up and running and closing in on the Croatian border.

• #3214
That said I notice that prior years' results only give places to those who went through each CP "within the hours of their operation".
-
• #3215
I'm not sure anyone has ever yet missed CP opening hours and then managed to catch up and make the next one before it has closed?

Sorry, he's out of GC (which is what I consider to be 'the race'), so technically still in the race but will be listed in whatever the other list is called. Assuming he finishes before they publish the final results!
"Riders will qualify for Solo or Pairs general classification if:
- They begin and finish the race under the same classification (solo or pair)
- They remain self-sufficient for the entire duration of their ride
- They validate at controls within the time of operation"
"Riders who do not validate at controls within their designated times of operation by definition lose contact with the validation procedure provided by the event. Transcontinental does not operate a ‘cut-off’ for these riders by which they are not included in the event listings but also cannot provide basic contact to give even the minimum assistance at controls. Therefore the requirements for self sufficiency are relaxed for these individuals and they are permitted to find outside assistance
should they need it. Similarly riders in this category are not held to the same degree of scrutiny as category finishers therefor penalties are not added and an official race time (D // H // M) is not awarded. However, with regards to rider safety the following still applies: In the event a rider is found to have broken, bent or attempted to circumvent the rules in order to gain an advantage, or has been found to have unintentionally done so with potentially serious consequences, the race administration will act, violations will be taken on a case by case basis." - They begin and finish the race under the same classification (solo or pair)

"A particularly pernicious example of the kind of behaviour we mean was displayed by our Lanterne Rouge on TCRNo5." ??

If I'm not mistaken David Coulon complained about safety on the road (bit like I did).

Oh yeah, I vaguely remember that. Maybe if you come from places that actually like cycling then the rest of Europe might be a bit scary but compared to Oz or shit my daily commute, the driving standard is -generally- FAR better on TCR roads. Romania, you need to have a look at yourself.

I recall those tweets put some blame on the organizers/race even if he meant it broadly on the sport (which he is participating in..), hence the push back.
-
• #3221
Fair enough too since it was his route and he chose to ride whatever roads he was feeling threatened on.
-
• #3222
Yeah, I had time to reflect on that and the difference between cycling in Belgium and for example Bosnia was a big shock for me. That's why I decided to never do it again. I just don't know how to cope with that kind of traffic.
-
• #3223
If the traffic is the issue, either choose a different road or wait until it's quieter.
-
• #3224
That would slow me down too much. And smaller roads have crazy drivers too.
-
• #3225
That's your call. I routed on slower roads to avoid busier ones. I also used some busier ones.
It's still a rider's choice 'on the ground' though and if they're not comfortable with a road they can't blame the orgs for their arrival on it or continued use of it.
All bikes went through scrutineering at the start, it was a reasonably quick look-over but they checked the shifting so it should have been picked up then if it was a bent hanger
