  • Well they are on the hope 25s now . Wasnt that hard and measure 31.2 mm .

  • Oh bold move!
I change my mind pretty much every day with this everything else is sorted or decided on.

  • Yeah makes sense, I guess your right it should be fairly well documented.

  • This might be a silly question but what does the tape around the wrists help with? Also what kind of tape?

  • I bought some 1” zinc oxide tape, quite adhesive and wide to offer some additional support to reduce the flex in the wrists and hopefully reduce the impact of the cobbles repeatedly flexing them or worse over extending them.

  • I know they weigh a ton but keep coming back to these - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F202258417536
I’ve been watching all the 90s editions of P-R on YouTube and nearly everyone is riding suspension forks... I kind of fancy it for a laugh but no doubt the joke will be on me in the end...

  • When I had my first go in 2010 I didn't do much more than gel pads under the tape (not sure it made a difference) and ran worn 25c Gatorskins at 115psi to avoid punctures. I survived.

Second time in 2015 (and only a week after the Ronde so I was already half cooked), I went with brand new 28c Gatorskins and was most proud of my preparation. Unfortunately the rear had a huge sidewall split that I only noticed on the Tunnel crossing so bought a 10 euro hybrid tyre in Decathlon. Help up well although couldn't quite figure out why my companions, in the same gear, kept riding away from me. All was revealed at the end when it became clear that the hybrid tyre was taller and had rubbed on the underside of the caliber the whole way.

I am clearly an idiot but the point I'm inelegantly making is that no need to sweat the tyre choice (unless that's part of the fun then go all out).

Oh, and I didn't even consider taping my wrists

  • If you go that route then it has to be the Rockshox Paris Roubaix SL-Ti surely? I know someone who had a pair, may still be in his shed

  • Ha! Dibs if he’ll sell them to me!?

  • Bar tape makes no difference whatsoever IMO. The wrists and forearms will hurt no matter what. We all got pretty nasty headaches going over the cobbles last time, take some tablets beforehand. The tip 're tape on the bottles is bang on. Bottles will be flying everywhere, the first 2 sectors are usually littered with them.

Watch out for MTBikers cutting you up as well, because they can..

I shall be running 27 open pave around 80psi. Same as before. A few of the lighter riders in our club will be running around 65psi.

  • Your wrists really take a battering. Mine hurt for about 6 weeks. I had double bar tape, and a lovely steel bike that absorbed quite a lot.

I really would recommend a light bandage with electrical tape reasonably tight over the top

  • Any places to eat near the finish on the saturday ?

  • pommes frites in the velodrome and beer

  • When you say put electrical tape over your bottles where exactly are you putting it? Are you essentially taping it to your bottle cage?

  • A few layers around the middle of the bottle just below where the cage will grip it to thicken it out so it doesn’t fly out of the cage I’d assume

  • What MattyC said, tape around the contact points with the cage.

Lift your bike up (by front and rear fork) and shake it a lot up and down. See if the bottles jump, or if anything else falls off

Recommend you do this with closed but nearly empty bottles and outside...

  • Took the strada bianca off and put the cheap merlin g ones on see pics . Bianca bit of a tight bitch the shwalbe fell on fresh no lever required .

  • Tubeless vs roadside tube change? What ‘size’ are the g one? Dibs strada!
    #DBAD

  • G ones are 30 mm and come up as stated . Rather go tube as its only 1 day of the other 364 that i will ride every day . Keeping the biancas

  • Fair do! Would you advise against the challenge if I were thinking of ordering a set in 30mm for the 1 day because fixing a puncture will be pita?

  • How big is your tyre box!?
Don’t you have the Pave as well??
I’m also confused, are you now running tubes for the challenge and tubeless the rest of the time??

I’ve fitted Hutchinson Sector 28s went out on them today and was impressed. Running at 80 front 85 rear at present.

  • Right
Conti grand prix 24s and 28s
    Gravel 26 and 28s
Vittoria pave 27 and the corsa g in 25
Strada pros 260 tpi in 30s
    Strada 90 tpi in 33
    G ones in 30 mm
I dont run tubeless on anything

I would go g one speed in the biggest you can fit . They where also very easy to get on and off . I think thats the important bit . 4 of our crew are running g one. Three tubeless

  • And I thought I was being indecisive between Vittoria Pave with tubes and Hutchinson tubeless!

Why not splash out and get some tubeless just to add to the confusion!?!

  • All those tyres have to cover the girlfriends bikes as well ! Tubeless may make her second head fall off !

  • Mud bath....
