  • My CS length will be 415
ST is 76° but will be equivalent of 73.5°
Wheelbase is sub 1000mm. Mine is 1003mm as a size 60 frame

  • When do you start taking orders?

  • Send Sam an email

  • There's a lot of madness going on here - will be interesting to see how it turns out.

  • I'm so glad I found this thread early

  • The 550s are not madness really. 74 degree headtube is the only thing really mad, but Joe Peake has been testing it so far this season and has had no issues despite mega toe overlap on his 510 frame.

  • I have been lying a little bit. Just measured the bike we finished last night. Axle to axle is not sub 1000, just a tad above. Sam chickened out when we notched the chainstays apparently. It could easily be improved for future models tho

  • Strong progress mate! Was cool to get a peek behind the curtain on Saturday, and pleasure to put a face to a name.

Hadn't realised the Bear Frame d/o's had integrated tension wheel, really tidy bit of hardware. Can Sam get those regularly now? ... so much want.

  • Well yeah at some point. We are making these bike to give Bear some feedback for improvements, but I think the idea is to make them available when ready.

  • Very nice!

So the front brake is cantis, but what about the rear?

  • I have a spot of toe overlap on my Talbot. It's kinda bothersome, but then I don't spend a lot of time riding it so I guess it's something you can get used to.

The short wheelbase - 1000mm or so - makes it lively but it's kinda terrifying at medium / slow speeds in tight turns - it's just a bit too keen to duck under you. Wheelbase is 1005mm but I've got more clearance than you'll probably have so maybe the longer front centre will sort that out a bit.

I reckon a 71/70 deg head angle with a spot more offset would be an improvement, on my frame, but then you've got to build a whole new frame and find a new fork. 74deg boggles my mind, but then I spend a lot of time on modern MTBs where 69.5 is on the steep side.

  • Those wheels look proper mad!

  • canti mate. But they will be made with discs as well

  • 74 comes from my old sscx I build years back. I like it sooo much. But that's why we are building these so we can have people test them in races.

  • Oh so the tabs are still missing on this frame then. Somehow I thought the seat stays would be too thin for this.

  • Yeah no bosses yet.
    Seat stays are quite standard.

  • can't wait to see this finished - loving the colour combo!

  • This looks great!

Joe seems to be doing all right with your radical geometry, though perhaps mud will be the real test.

  • PHOTO BOMB

This one is our friend Tom's:

This one is mine.... I still need to do the full fillets. Hopefulley I'll finish it Wednesday.

  • Looking great! Slack head angles are overrated anyway :-)

  • banging. so so so good.

  • Thanks guys. BTW those tyres are 33c for reference!
