  • Between Liverpool and Manchester now. Seems to have dropped an hour. Still up by 56 mins. Pretty impressive really. Really hope she does it.

  • Hopefully miss the preston school run and then it clears up to longridge then its shap as the next target.

  • Sad to hear she packed.

  • Yeh but that wind was not favourable and perhaps too many miles in her legs .

  • Shame after all the work she put into preparing, and putting together a strong support team. She wouldn't have stopped unless she had to, and she was doing well vs target, so she must have been suffering. I guess she will be pretty down now, @hippy will probably have the best idea how she might be feeling

  • Argh no. I'd checked on her around midnight and she still seemed good then saw she'd had 1.5hr rest and was still up 18m. I've not seen further than that.

  • She'll spend every waking hour running what ifs through her head for 3 months. It sucks not hitting targets but if we're at all similar she'll analyse problems, fix and return, unless, in my case I deemed it less important of a target and moved on with other stuff. Even now I have unfinished business with Lejog and she got further than me since I'd pulled pin on official attempt beforehand and just ridden unofficial as I wasn't confident enough to rope everyone in but small team had booked time off already. I hope she has another go.

  • Records are evil. You're not beating the people on the day, you're beating everyone and all the conditions on previous records. So frustrating to have everything sorted and lose out with conditions.

  • She may have been successful if she didn't do LEL. Tailwind the entire way to Scotland and weather was pretty fair

  • Has she actually cited fatigue as a reason?
I've not read any comments from her on why the attempt was aborted.

  • Apparently she was unwell. So not fatigue.

  • I think he meant do it at the time that LEL was on given the big Southerlies during LEL.

  • I see. I thought it was a comment on her leadup.

But if LEL was good weather why was @DarrenFranks out with hypothermia? Maybe I didn't get the full story of the LEL. I was a bit busy at the time..

  • LEL wasn't good weather. I got soaked when I rode to Loughton for the volunteering on Sunday morning.

  • This is what I meant.

  • The the ride to start was a bit damp. 6.30am > was fine.

  • This is why you were leading the team.

  • Poor kit choice?

It was like riding in the UK during the summer i.e. a mixed bag. Head winds, tail winds, patches of rain and a bit of sunshine at points.

  • But if LEL was good weather why was @DarrenFranks out with hypothermia? Maybe I didn't get the full story of the LEL. I was a bit busy at the time..

Going back South was probably less fun.

  • Apparently she was unwell. So not fatigue.

Yes, could be anything, maybe not even cycling related. No details yet.

    She's probably asleep

  • She commented on facebook:
"Couldn't stop puking out my guts"

  • The temps never dropped below 10C but it was always wet and windy so the 'feels like' would've been much lower.

The hypothermia was likely a result of cumulative fatigue and general exhaustion. I had a shoddy build up (as always) and hit the start in bad shape and with a big sleep debt. L

  • Shame she didn't make it, look forward to the next attempt.

  • She's ridden through some grim flap mash issues and doesn't lack toughness. I know how much effort it's taken to raise funds and manage the logistics for this attempt. It sounds almost as tough as the riding itself. Losing that opportunity will hurt the most, I think. Hopefully she'll find it easier to fund and manage a repeat attempt as her profile grows.

It is. I should never have tried to organise mine.
