The film photography one?

Have decided on Hope Rs4 hubs. Will go for steel freehub and 4 pawls.
I like Hope stuff and it's easy to service (haz all the tools) and I like Shimano centrelock disc rotors.

Part of me still wants crabon rims, but either way I'd like to build up with offset drilling.
-
• #55
Offset drilling is usually only used on shallow rims; >50mm U shape carbon rims are so stiff and spoke bracing angles better.
-
• #56
What rims would you suggest- 650b tubeless
-
• #57
Light bicycle. Probably come in well under 400g
-
• #58
Which one? There are so many
Also how well does hookless work with road/gravel tyre pressures?
-
• #59
I have light bicycle carbon disc rims on Bitex hubs. Would recommend. I run them with tubes and gravel tyres at 40psi and haven't punctured on tubes as yet. I don't like tubeless.
Gav at August Wheelworks built them up for me.

Tubeless? Hookless?
-
• #61
Tubeless ready. I run em with tubes tho. I dunno what hookless is. Sounds like another silly and pointless thing the bike industry has invented to make people buy more shit they don't need.

Hookless wheels have no bead hook on the inside.

Like this.

My original statement stands.
-

The rationale is that rims can be made more strong and cheaper without the hook. It is proven to work in MTBs but not yet certain if road tubeless can function without the hook due to higher pressure.

I'm not sold.

Wouldn't call if the future since it's been around for yonks and most automotive industry uses it, and I would go for it for sheer experimenting, but depends on cost. Is the manufacturing cost saving coming to us or simply being pocketed. Wouldn't bother till mainstream or cheaper.
Like SRAM eagle, would be nice to fuck around with, but I'll only get it when I find a reason to. -

Have Light Bicycle 55mm rims I built on some weird Ultegra 10 spd 18/24 10 spd OEM hubs from Ebay and they were a piece of piss to build with CX Rays and haven't needed any attention in two years of abuse.

Have some 55mm U shaped light bicycle rims on 11 speed ultegra disc hubs (CX75) with D-Light spokes, built by @ugosantalucia. Also haven't needed any attention in 2.5 years.
Quoted rim weights were 480g (+/- 15g each).
Actual was 486g and 500g, so pretty close. They're apparently tubeless ready, though I've not tried and they don't have the recessed channel.

Hunt seems to use hookless rims for their road disc wheels. I guess they tested it
-

Don't think this was even on their site a few days ago, 24 mm and asymmetric drilling, but only rated to 40psi. Or is it overkill compared to the one two posts above?

with disc brakes there's no reason not to have carbon rims
-
• #74
Nice rim but 40 psi is low indeed
-
• #75
Or 24 mm and 70 psi rating. But not offset drilling 370g
https://www.lightbicycle.com/carbon-mountain-bike-650b-rim-mtb-27-5-rim.html
@edscoble @chak @coldharbour 370g 24mm internal width rim vs 320g 22mm internal width?
Go back to your thread amey, this one has disc brakes.
