I won't be near a telly. Gutted.

I'm not sure about the TV debate thing... Won't they all just gang up on Corbyn as the primary challenger?
Standing up to someone who is in the same room would surely be a better ploy for making yourself look like a tough leader, rather than criticising someone who is sat on the sofa at home (after having finished her girl's jobs around the house).

Maybe, but if they empty chair May...
Most of the people in that room could concievably be in some sort of coalition in the next few weeks against the Torys. I'd have thought they're more likely to gang up on the Torys. -

There's still a risk that sitting along side and debating with the other "losers" allows May to frame herself as the true leader.
It also opens him up to being rinsed on immigration by UKIP (a key trad. lab. issue).... and everyone else on a number of other issues.
Still, fingers crossed everyone else will attack the Tories in their absence. But it is a risk.
On the flip side, May began the election on Brexit + strong&stable. After being a bit shit on most TV and ducking any tough situations, this does give JC the opportunity to take the strength frame.
Maybe, but if they empty chair May...
Pretty sure this has already been vetoed as it's just not cricket. -

In that format I hope it will be really hard to attack Corbyn, because his personality will just deflect it. Also, will be skewed left as a consensus.
-
• #1508
It's also much easier to criticise someone who isn't there as they don't answer back (and it's not as if they didn't have the chance to be there).

• #1509
The Tories are going - Rudd will be there for May.

Maybe, but if they empty chair May...
Amber Rudd is representing the Tories, so there won't be an empty chair.
-
• #1511
If I remember correctly Amber Rudd is sitting in for May currently.
-
• #1512
OOOOOOOOh.
Interesting. She's usually alright.
-
• #1513
Snap!
-
• #1514
Is Amber Rudd taking Maybot's place?
-
• #1515
She may be decent at debating, but they're going to look like fools sending a proxy. How's that for strong and stable? What's that say for her Brexit negotiation skills?
-
• #1516
That she knows how to delegate?
:)

• #1517
Don't really like to get involved in politics, sorry.
-
• #1518
Right on. It could not look more cowardly - sending your underling.

• #1519
I can imagine the laugh that response would get from the audience already.

You have to admire the brazen cheek of criticising "sound bites" followed by, er, a sound bite.

If there is anything we've learned about May since she became PM is that she is shameless (see speeches against Scottish independence, and claims about being stronger together; see recent interviews with Marr and Paxman). Some would say she lacks self-awareness, but I think she just doesn't have any faith in the electorate recognizing it. I worry she may be right.

It's so good. Tories will be in panic. If he can nail the debate, cracks will start to show and briefing against May will start.
