You're all wrong.

Thought the same, until I tried it and it’s actually a nice change, I can bleed how much levers throw I want for instance.
It come with two pads, sintered and resin.

There seems to have been several leaking seals on the Shimano road calibers, according to the internet. And a couple of cracked pistons. So as I only had the levers, I bought those Hope calibers to go with them. And then they had a leaking seal and I had to get a warranty replacement. After that they have been pretty nice though.

I'm with @umop3pisdn Go with the Hopes if you can afford it mate. Why not.

• #2982
This is the only reason I changed to Hope to be fair.

• #2983
So that worked out well then

Hmmm, if only there was an alternative braking system that meant we could do away with leaky disk brakes....something like.....
-
• #2985
Those are nice. I'd consider building a bike around them.

There's a thread on weightweenies on the rx4s, seemed to have started off with great expectations, finally an end to leaky shimano brake issues. Devolved into leaky brakes AND stuck pistons to boot, people not impressed.

I have my dyno routed internally through Spork fork. Apart from being a huge pain in the ass to route, it's totally magical. Looks so much neater.

Internally routed dynamos saves lives x

Who the hell is experiencing leaky Shimano brakes? I have Shimano hydraulics of varying levels on my commuter, CX and mountain bike. They’ve been faultless. The only maintenance is popping new pads in and cleaning the side of the pistons with an earbud dipped in mineral oil once a year.

Some of the road stuff has been leaky. 1 in a million batch probably, but angry users + internet = etc etc
Thing is, people treat hydros like they're totally maintenance free and then abuse them all year round in all conditions, and on the road stuff drag the shit out of them then expect it all to stay alright. Do that on say....a motorcycle and see how far that gets you.

Who the hell is experiencing leaky Shimano brakes?
On a long enough time line anyone who has ever used them
-

Although I suspect most of the Shimano and Hope issues above are down to crappy maintenance not manufacturing snafu

Yeah, but you’re different, bicycles obey you.

I'm inclined to agree, the combination of poor maintenance (such as running them to the point of the pads wearing out completely) and the occasional leaky seal (for some reason with the ceramic piston) make it look more problematic than it is.

The leaking Hope I had, leaked straight out of the box, I tried to bleed it but the oil just came through. Local dealer said it might be just a twisted seal. Got a replacement, has been good since for lots of km's, bad weather and mountainpasses.

Ok as step 1 I have decided to get extralite stem and ritchey carbon seatpost to save few hundred grams (lol) and carry over the R785 .. step 2 would be R8070 with shimano brakes, they work well on the canyon.

Not sure about extralight tbh, won't you have bar luggage?

+1
I love Hope, by the way - just don't miss the brakes now that I use lovely, cheap, functional Shimano brakes on everything.
