  • Yes, the chocolate milk prices are a bit steep. But it should be right up your street, ie lots of flat miles (and nothing to eat but TimTams for days on end). And the Nullarbor can't be a total headwind two years running.
I did hear rumours of some off-road sections though.

  • They do proper iced coffee over there. I'd pay way over the odds no matter. Lost income is the bigger hit for me. This year I basically had 1.5 months unemployed which was fucking rad but not great for the bank account. If I did IPWR I'd still want to race TABR and then we all know I couldn't let TCR get away without a little bit of a dabble...

I already do off-road sections... they're known as TCR 'roads'.

  • Sure if you tell the Conservatives you're Aussie, they'll ship you back for free.

  • With the levels of competency as they are ATM You'll probably end up in Austria.

  • Fully paid for (spits) dual citizenship so UKIP and the jam party (conserve, geddit?) can fuck off. I better marry the missus quick so when this place goes down the toilet I can still fuck off to Italy or Spain or something if I can't face going all the way back to Oz.

Gotta weigh up easy money (that's worth less and less the longer this Brexit debacle continues) vs. race risks.

  • I'm yet to see a kangaroo in Austria. Very disappointing.

  • Its happening.

  • Team of 4 things sounds interesting, from the point i'd want a solo to smash them.

    Good it's on.

  • I wonder how the relay thing will work? Because if it's unsupported I assume they're not driving out to the finish point of the first rider? Or are they going to start in 4 different places along the route? Or when they say relay do they just mean team of 4 and everyone rides it together? Unclear.

  • Jesse explains it

  • I see, cheers.

  • Sweet. Should be in Melbourne in time for most of the riders passing through :)

  • Relay thing is interesting, and they might get a few takers from people who wouldn't do the full ride. Would work well for mixed ability teams:
The nullarbor leg is way longest and loneliest.
Adelaide to Melbourne is almost as flat (2 climbs) and a lot prettier.
Melbourne to canberra is the hilly bit
And Canberra to Sydney is the shortest and easiest.
I wonder if they actually do it as a relay with riders starting when the previous one has finished. If so, a bit of variability on timing for the later guys.
Also, what happens to the other riders if the nullarbor guy scratches? (A third of riders scratched before Adelaide last time). They'll let them ride, but hard to do an ultra when your reason for doing it has gone!

  • Anyone want a job for 12 months? I want to ride ALL THE THINGS!

  • I've applied. Considering it fixed too.

  • Good luck!

  • Still tempted.

Not sure I want the hassle of looking for a new job though after I take Mar, June and August off...

Can I have all your notes? :)

  • Well you shit boss got the sack while you gone and you get reemployed by new nice boss. Win.

  • I entered TABR and TCR this year on the basis I was fucked off with da boss. If I go for all three maybe I'll come back and be in charge of the company...

  • @hippy is always right :-/

Jesse had a Q&A on Facebook today. He explains this at the 29:20 timestamp: https://www.facebook.com/IndianPacificWheelRace/videos/493610554347667/

  • According to the PDF you receive when you apply, the relay race will allow riders to ride with each other for ~20km before/after the change-over point whilst sticking to the rule of no drafting.

If one of the riders scratches from an earlier section of the course before handing to the next rider, the entire team scratches.

So, a lot of pressure on everyone, especially the last rider if they fail to complete the last section!

  • especially the last rider if they fail to complete the last section!

    Interesting.
The pressure is on the Nullarbor guy.
He is doing over half of the distance, often very remote from food, water and other supplies, and passing precisely zero bike shops where he can get any mechanicals fixed. And if he scratches, the other guys don't even get to play!

  • I'm sure I read somewhere that the other riders could go back and fill in for a scratched rider or something.

I wonder if they will get a complete team. Sounds like a ballache to sort out.

  • Agree, less hassle just to ride the whole thing!
But it's good marketing: give people something to talk about, get people not up for the full distance to think about it, etc. Jesse is great at that. And his facebook trolling of people who want to introduce mandatory sleep limits is hilarious.
