SDW was pretty great training for a six hour ya know

A one off ride does not constitute a training plan...

Bouncy forks nearly ready for testing.

For the Talbot 29er?
-
• #56
Yep. Going to test it out at Thetford this weekend . Pretty much as it is here, minus the rack, of course :-)

Loving the fork Pete, looks like a super fun setup.
I'm getting my ticket as soon as I get paid. I'll cheer you on after my 6 hour. -
• #58
Thanks, Jess. You riding it solo, or in a team?
-

Small details. Making sure the cleats on my spare shoes are set up right.

If there's still tickets once I get paid I think I'm going to enter. This thread's been good motivation!

Do it. It's a great event. Much fun. So MTB. Wow.
-
• #62
Apparently, it's cheaper if you enter before the 28th of Feb. I'll be getting my entry in in the next couple of days.

I'll be doing it solo.
Also Pete's right @xkittyx! It's cheaper entry before the 28th. -

I've never done anything like this but am getting tempted.....

DO IT.

Don't you ride longer than that on most of your days off :-)

I'm going to Swinley on Monday and some other local trials on Tuesday next week if you'd like to join.

• #69
Not going to be around then, but thanks anyway :-)

Ha! Not since I smashed my knee! I've lost a load of mojo and am struggling to kick start myself!

My eternal enemy* showed it's face yesterday.
Beautiful sunny day, with several potential routes planned out the day before, ranging from 40-50 miles. Woke up at 08:30 and went straight back to bed for 3 hours. Just couldn't face getting out there. You might as well have asked me to step out into a cold, dark void.
Ended up doing 45 minutes of intervals on the trainer in the afternoon, to shake off the shitty feeling of having wasted another day.
I already know that I can put up with a bit of suffering on the bike. The getting out there and preparing for it is going to be the hardest part :-/
*sorry to make it sound so melodramatic. It feels very real at the time.

Sounds not bad for February to be fair.
Don't be too hard on yourself :)

Anxiety in those situations is tough, there is no two ways about it. And I don't think you're being melodramatic.
I think it's extra difficult because the goal you have in mind (increasing fitness) requires consistent engagement with overcoming your anxiety. The only thing I have seen so is to say is that in those moments it is OK to tell yourself that it is Ok you feel that way. It's like 'I am struggling to do xx' is hard enough without compounding it with 'I am struggling with myself for struggling to do xx'. From my experience, people I love who struggle with anxiety found themselves (a bit, occasionally) better able to deal with it (sometimes) by accepting that they were the kind of people who struggled with anxiety. And so in those moments of anxiety the emotions were less meta, a lower volume of circular negative thinking and were more up for confronting the anxiety then smashing themselves to pieces internally about experiencing anxiety.
It's ok to be you, and for things to feel a bit shit. There is always another shot at things, and that the way things feel sometimes will definitely pass. Just my thoughts. -

Dead excited about this

Only ridden a few easy miles this past week, as I've been away, but felt quite inspired by the ThunderCross event on Saturday.
Hoping to get back on it in the next few days.
