Oh, I though Matt had the scoop on some inherent flaw in the design.

Lol na. I'm sure they are better but just not that fussed right now.

Everyone already knows the advantages are kinda tenuous on skinny, non-gnar non-squish bikes.
-
• #55
On the rear yeah but on the front we still have the inherent issue of brake forces trying their best to eject the wheel no?

Mostly countered by good fork end design and quality QR skewers.
Foolproof is good though and I agree QR front isn't foolproof. But neither is TA.

My Talbot is QR rear, thru axle front, and that was dictated by my fork choice mostly. I think thru axle rear is a bit overkill unless you are a big unit or you're gonna be off roading a lot. Makes sense on the front tho for me!
You planning on having this done for BCM? Let's chat soon if you still want me to paint, as that Bespoked time of year, and it's looking like I'm gonna be pretty busy!

@dammit I've tried those DT Swiss skewers and failed to see any benefits?
I've not done any back to back testing, so my opinion is basically bunk. The front end of the CAAD12 does feel very accurate/stiff.
One thing I've definitely noticed is that with a QR bike, if it's in the stand and I put the front wheel in it's inevitably slightly crooked - I always put the bike on the ground, open the QR again, then do it up after the weight of the bike has trued the wheel up in relation to the centre axis (if that makes sense?), whereas with the QR-axle (what to call this?) the wheel always goes in straight in the stand.
Now, it may be that as I'm so awesome I've developed the ability to put wheels in dead straight, but it feels like it locates the wheel better. This of course is likely to be classic confirmation bias, but whatevs.

Went to the workshop on Saturday and met/spoke to Matt and saw my tubes which was exciting. We discussed paint and decided to use flake cause it looks badass.
Colour inspo - quite like the sunset. Will be metal flake though. Like the helmet.

oh wow, that sounds fantastic, I'm looking forward to seeing it! Did you settle on the brake option/ wheel size?

my thoughts exactly....

I mean, difference is it wouldn't be a tube by tube fade, just one big one. Matt's gonna do some mock ups anyway so will see what it looks like.

That green helmet is amazing. So deep that you want to swim in it.

Good examples on the paint but when I think of sunset paintjobs, thus is the first one that pops in my head.

Same, been drooling for that paintjob ever since I saw it.
Edit:quite jelly with the talbot. Can't wait how this one turns out!

Had last minute cold feet and almost asked Matt to build an out and out road bike but then came to my senses and remembered that I don't have space for multiple bikes. So I've gone one step further and asked for clearance for 35c tyres with guards and am now going for a cross fork instead of road. Likely a Whisky No 9 with guard mounts. The frame mitring process had already started so luckily I wasn't too late!

Standard JB
Several reasons I guess. I mean, in five years time maybe I will regret it, but the current thru axle standards at the rear are too wide for road Q factors and if it ever was a problem at the front, then you know, forks are easy enough to change.
Main reason for me though is that if I ever fucked a thru axle on a long ride or something, I'm far more likely to find a QR than a thru axle. Or some shit like that.
