I'm not sure that would becalm his troubled mind, but whatever.

(BTW, this kind of thing has got me into trouble before. This is a joke. I am not trying to cause any offence.)

Darren's dot is moving about a bit, fingers crossed it is being attached to a bike...

Just changing motels. Latest ping was in Tennessee overnight. Hopefully that means it arrives by midday.
I can’t bring myself to crunch the numbers because I already know it isn’t possible to make it to Virginia, with 4-5 days sat out. The hard part, I think, will be trying to race hard with the knowledge that I won’t complete the race. I just have to remember I’m riding for something bigger and do the best I cang for Cancer Research.

Got a link for just giving or whatever?

Darren, is it not possible to move the goal posts and come back later so you can finish?
I’d hope whatever the constraint is could be understood by those on the ends of it. If you can it’s imporant to finish.Obviously understand if it’s not possible and no pressure.

it would be great if he is able to pull it off.
If he does it will be brilliant. Here's hoping. If anyone has the mental resiliance to do that, Darren's the man.

It is at times like this that we can really appreciate the ban handed down to Pisti.

Hippy in Kansas and in 10th (if you put the two HPVs in a class of their own).
-
• #2114
Kraig Pauli way off track too, so maybe virtual 9th?
-
• #2115
I have great support from Virgin and can get any flight I want but as well as the cost of being holed up here in Jackson (£160 is the cheapest motel room!) I’m not earning money while I’m racing and that’s the ultimate limiter. I can’t be on the road indefinitely.
-
• #2116
Why is Kraig Pauli off track? He seems to be on the route now.
For some reason, I can't look at his history right now, so can't check if he went off route at any point.
-
• #2117
Road closure perhaps?

Maybe the bridge is down?
-
• #2119
Cheers, I couldn't look at that myself earlier for some reason. I agree it doesn't really look as if he got lost.
-
• #2120
hippy hasn't ridden over it yet, though.
-
• #2121
Other riders have though, which rather puts the lie to the road closed theory.
-
• #2122
hippy's half-hourly tracker updates often mean that if he's leading another rider by only a few miles, it looks as if that other rider is ahead of him instead because of more frequent updates.
-
• #2123
Actually, now it seems that at least one other rider has detoured that section.
-
• #2124
Ah, OK. It may have been closed just before he got there, though? Indiana Schulz can't have been too far ahead of Kraig, and he rode the route.
-
• #2125
Yes, Marcel Graber. He started his detour earlier and took a different route around it. He and Kraig Pauli are the only ones so far.
It looks like a really lovely stretch of route.
We should start a list of people who are prepared to invite Mrs Franks round for dinner should Darren fail to get back in time.
