  • No it’s not a favour.

    Bike fitters often offer follow up advice and thoughts encompassed in their initial charge. Some very good ones will even have you back at no extra charge.

    So if I called him, on the main phone number, during office hours and asked for advice. He’s treat it just as any other and offer advice. It’s not calling a mate. It’s calling a publically available bike fitter on a public number.

    Plus if I did, I’d also say treat me as any other customer. But I’ve never called him so far anyway.

    Now if it transpires someone was texting or calling their bike fitter on their private mobile out of business hours, that is well into the grey area. Unless they have that number in their website taking called from anyone!

    We normally agree well on these things, so perhaps my view is being lost in my poor wording.

  • I’ll send you my credit card bill from August!

  • I agree anyone could call a bike fitter but I'm not sure they'd get free advice without a prior relationship. And if they did, the advice would be a lot less tailored because they wouldn't know the setup they were dealing with.
    In the same way I expect I could call a random cycling coach during one of these things and get some sort of input but calling a coach I had worked with for a year would be a lot more useful.

  • Ha, I’ll raise you a September one.

  • Marcel Graber has caught up with Peter Andersen.

  • Yes, Dave Lewis is on a similar trajectory to Marcel, only he is further back, though he's also moving through the field. Donncha has dropped back, level now with Indiana so he might end up in 5th shortly - Donncha seems a bit out of sorts in the last few days and the last section almost looked like he was stuck to [IS] for a bit. Will be interesting what happens to Peter Andersen from here if Marcel passes him (which seems inevitable). Does he try to push harder or accept he's fighting for 2nd/3rd with [KP] and try to stick to Evan's pace from last year hoping Marcel will overcook it? Sabine looks to have broken free of Hippy, Darren is in West Yellowstone with a bunch of other riders including Tanja.

  • But it’s not calling a friend. You’re calling them as a business. You’re previous relationship means they would and could offer advice.

    Would you then consider it ok, if the person paid the fitter a small fee?

    Or is it that they can offer personalised advice?

    I'd say you were getting a service that others couldn't get precisely because you have a previous relationship.

    But could be one to post in the TCR facebook group and see what other people think?
    I'd do it but I'm weaning myself of the FB habit - not been there for about three days...

    That's the kind of nugget that tempts people back onto Facebook, but I'll resist this time! What does it say - who has the best / most regular pattern?

  • It isn't FB hosted, so you would be ok. A visualisation of non-riding times.

  • If your Garmin broke and you used Garmin support to fix it, where does that come in outside support?

  • Suppose I'd better go climb

    @skinny too

    This is all shades of gray though isn't it? What if there was no prior relationship, yet upon said help that was called finds out that you're in a race and sees an opportunity with a no fee offer to help for publicity, what umbrella does that fall under? Rider unknowing of course.

  • Nathan has spoken;

    These racers signed an agreement acknowledging the rules. The rules are set, the race is in progress. Any questions, see rule 1. Hope you enjoy the dots, photos, and please remember to be kind. None of this matters compared to the actual struggles in the world. #itsjustaride

  • I was a day out on my prediction but Marcel Graber is in the lead now. He'll likely win by a big margin barring anything unexpected. Velomobiles are their own category in my eyes though, not really a contest vs. regular bikes.

  • I think I’ve found the source of the ‘speed wobble’ that’s been killing me for the last couple of days.

  • Watching them grind up the hills at 4-5kph, I have a lot of admiration and respect for them, but totally agree they need their own category if we’re going to take the ‘race’ seriously.

  • Yeah I probably wouldn't do the Hoosier Pass descent on that eh. Plans?

  • Duct tape?*

    Good luck sorting out a solution.

    *not a serious piece of advice therefore not cheating

  • I hitched to Jackson Hole. There are a few welders here (closed on a Saturday night and all of Sunday, natch) and hopefully one of them can work with Ti.

    There are a few other options but none of them look great. I’m also under a lot of pressure not to be out here too long (wife can’t cook for shit and I’ve only left her 21 meals in the freezer) and most of the other options will fall foul of that.

  • Ouch

    For sells, one careful owner, ridden to church on Sundays..

  • You can have my bike. I don't want it any more.

  • That's still twice as fast as me.

    They're not going to feature in my results. I'm in a bike race.
