  • anyone else getting very slightly worried?

Yeah. Haven't so far but it's getting to me a little lately.

  • A couple of weeks old, but worth a watch if you'd like to master Trump's mortal kombat finishing move style handshake

  • I love this. I don't love Carl Bildt but I love what he's written here.

Edit: 'I regret that President Trump is slandering our country in his attempts to find reasons for what he wants to do in closing off the United States. I suspect that his actual knowledge of the issue is extremely limited.'

  • Don't read the comments.

  • The TUV, a local party headed by a very angry bigoted (hates ROI / SF / Irish is terrorists...) man borrowed the slogan "drain the swamp" (elections here in NI the 3rd of March) for the election leaflets.

No mention of making ROI paying for a wall between NI and ROI. TSS missed opportunity...

  • Don't read the comments

    Gah, just did

  • Sweden is currently top of my list of "places to move to when Brexit hits".

  • Haven't you see that it is like a war zone?

  • insert IKEA on Sunday joke

  • Stay out you dirty immigrant, we've had quite enough raping and shooting sprees as it is, thank you.

Seriously though, Sweden's not that great either. Nowhere is, I think. Or everywhere, depending on your financial status I suppose.

  • Denmark all the way

  • Depends what you want out of a place.

NI in many ways isn't bad if you work in some sectors, if you are lgbt you probably prefer Sweden though.

Netherlands you better like rules, bluntness and bicycles a lot. And that arsehole of a Wilder blegh he won't get in to form a government but I'm embarrassed it got that far :(

I like that in NI ppl aren't sticklers for rules and you can get train tickets in the train etc, but then sometimes I wish they'd be a little more organised...Like in the Netherlands :)

  • Only NI isn't exactly a place to escape from Brexit, it's going to be just about the worst hit place. And given that it's already a sectarian, racist, corrupt, segregated shitpit, the outlook isn't encouraging.

  • Good accents though.

One of my favourites to mimic.

  • The sadly ironic story of US immigration detaining a French Vichy scholar for 24 hours or so.

(It's forrin so you may need to use Google Translate)

  • Muhammed Ali Jr too, but 'only' a couple hours.

Don't you know who my daddy is?

  • I know NI has some rather unique issues, and it's a post-conflict society so some of these will endure for another 2 generations.

Brexit is also extremely shit if NI doesn't get special status, and that would mean probably I'd end up leaving.

I'm not blind to the fact some issues are really much worse here, but if you follow the British Humanist page you realise issues with segregation are not unique to NI.

And on racism, UKIP got fuck all votes here (though the DUP is also a touch racist) and the Republican [as in, they want to rejoin ROI] parties actively resist it and get votes.

TL:DR I know you hate the place, but not everything is a 100% worse over here.

  • What would you know!?

  • That nearly nobody here indicates on roundabouts and how to cook potato farls? ;)

  • Not voting for UKIP =\= not racist. The DUP (and their counterparts) are just as contemptible, if not worse. With policies that are actively incriminating and killing people (eg. blocking safe access to abortion - with SF only opposing them because they need to be polar opposites).

NI is still one of the most parochial and backward places that I've spent any significant amount of time in. The only way you can enjoy it is to move to the countryside and say "fuck everyone else", which only serves to make the problem worse.

Most parties only survive because of the entrenched notion that, regardless of your level of involvement in any church, you need to ascribe a religion to your family. My parents never went to church but would absolutely classify themselves as protestant. They have never had anything to say about politics or unionism or royalty but if pressed, they would only vote for the party with a union flag on their leaflets. If that's the case, its going to be DUP. Most residents wouldn't be "smart" enough to realise they could vote for another party to go for UKIP.

  • sectarian, racist, corrupt, segregated shitpit

    Sounds lovely! books plane tickets
