  • This segment from OTM this week is a great listen on the history of the Republican party’s goal of voter suppression.

  • Less so in Northern Ireland which is a poor part of the UK.

You are not wrong, it's not the only factor though. Poor nationalist and mostly non white / mixed ethnicity poorer areas in uk saw it for what it is.

And then the well off people in South England and coastal areas of NI are definitely racists if attitude surveys / DUP voting are reliable indicators, they have their creature comforts but barely come up. What reason did they have?

The "my parents had it easier" USA middle class voted for trump a lot. Imagination of "it's not fair / immigrants will lower my house prices" worked too.

  • In my experience perceptions of order (as in law & order, traditional family and careers, cultural familiarity) mean a great deal to low socioeconomic demographics if they are conservative in character.

Trumps actions in power (not the tweets) make him the most ultra conservative prez in recent history.

  • Trump's brand of post truth and his willingness to suggest without saying are making this intresting enough for another politics tab.

Hints at assassination are really extreme but it feels like it is becoming a new norm. His supports just shrug it off as a wilful misinterpretation by the Clinton campaign/mainstream media.

Really interesting tho is this building of the idea that if Trump doesn't win then the election is illegitimate. Where are they going with this. Is this as extreme as the Trump team knowing they wont win and looking at other avenues to take power or are they just simply throwing another cat on the table.

Roger Stone, an informal adviser to the Trump campaign, implied last month to internet agitator Milo Yiannopoulos that the notion of discrediting the election as “illegitimate” is part of Trump’s campaign strategy.

“I think we have widespread voter fraud, but the first thing that Trump needs to do is begin talking about it constantly,” Stone said. “He needs to say for example, today would be a perfect example: ‘I am leading in Florida. The polls all show it. If I lose Florida, we will know that there’s voter fraud. If there’s voter fraud, this election will be illegitimate, the election of the winner will be illegitimate, we will have a constitutional crisis, widespread civil disobedience, and the government will no longer be the government.’”

“If you can’t have an honest election, nothing else counts,” Stone continued. “I think he’s gotta put them on notice that their inauguration will be a rhetorical, and when I mean civil disobedience, not violence, but it will be a bloodbath. The government will be shut down if they attempt to steal this and swear Hillary in. No, we will not stand for it. We will not stand for it.”

First post. Interesting read at these times. How things haven't changed.

  • Those remembrance coins are a good place to start
Edit: see the meme thread for those

  • The Daily Show channel on Youtube has a "100 most tremendous Trump scandals" video

I think this is more satire. I have pro trump family and they think that biden is corrupt and going to use office for his personal gain but Trump is a good guy for the people.

  • I wouldn't bother trying to change their minds mate. If they have a problem with the behaviour of the Bidens, which even Republican led investigations have found to be "problematic but not illegal", surely they would also have problems with Trump's kids who have made literally $100m out of his name in the last year or two including deals in china. Not to mention the fact that the Trump kids literally stole from a kid's cancer charity.

People who believe the Biden stuff is problematic seem to be very blinkered to what is going on elsewhere.

  • Or on the previous page ;-D

  • I generally try not to throw insults about people's appearances around but the man has a steamed gammon face to match his steamed gammon views.

  • Tell them Trump is a loser. A loser who was the most powerful man on the planet but still couldn’t manage a ‘legitimate’ election.
