Started the day at £700... currently at £754... so despite the incident costing over £500 a flood of donations has restored where we were this morning.
A single donation was £250... so a huge thank you to that person (I've always kept donations confidential, but I feel I want to thank this person because that was basically the whole year's DNS cost paid for which enabled me to get the other sites back online too).

Slightly late but it seems this error
was somehow linked to paying with a credit card. When I changed the source of funds to a bank account it worked fine.

Just set up a monthly donation as well! I hope we'll be able to keep the forum alive for a long time. ;-)

Where it not for this forum I wouldn't have met many people, or bordered on S-1 conversations. For that alone I am grateful.
Donation made after selling a bike to a fellow forum member.
Where's my f'ing yellow star?

Huh, every time I tried to set it up I got this error message when trying to setup recurring donation, but never made the connetion that it could be card (I just tried various cards).
Now I tried it with my current account, and it worked!

Hey Bossman, I've been off the site for a month or so and recently cancelled my monthly donation. Only reason was because I've left blighty and my UK accounts are dustier than an old man's pockets.
Thought I could just add my French card to PayPal but apparently it doesn't work like that and I need to set up a brand new PayPal account specifically for france.
I'm on holiday atm so hopefully gonna sort it this week to do my very small part for keeping the lights on. Peace!

So will you change your username to Épicé? :)

Ha, amazing. Took it from Gewurztraminer as my Mrs is from Lorraine (so all the alsacien wine is always on heavy rotation) and I had no clue Gewürzt was spiced in English.
Only been together for 15 years. Everyday's a learning day!

LFGSS has removed ALL of the affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, etc.
In fact, I've moved towards a privacy stance... we'll still strip affiliate tracking, but we won't add our own.
eBay was still funding about 25% of the forum costs, but changes in the rules and the fact that I would have to declare it as personal income means it would be taxable, and I'd need an accountant... and screw that, so I've just removed it.
We have £489 in the bank, and we go from month to month but costs are still covered fine, I'll make up the ~£100 lost from eBay myself.

Been reading this discussion and thinking about the various online communities I've seen come and go -
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40133976
Plus the imminent arrival of ads and general shitting up of Discord once it does an IPO.
Donated!

As many of you are probably aware, the forum was down for most of yesterday due to a denial of service attack, as detailed by @Velocio here:
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/396550/
This has depleted the forum kitty, so if you can spare an additional donation this month to help replenish it, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

The dreadful empty feeling that loss of the site led me to feel after about 6 hours or so has finally prompted me to stop donating ad hoc and just set up a monthly donation.
More people should be like me.
Not one to answer today @Velocio, but how are the finances looking after the unexpected costs of the last 24 hours?
