  • I thought your road bike had mahosive spacer stack ;)

  • The one you dumped in the anti porn thread, yeah cheers. It did the first day I set it up, forks now been cut and stack is slammed ;p

  • Yeah the wheels are sick, I'm gutted they will eventually turn silver but I imagine they won't stand out too much. As for the internal cabling, for now I'm just drilling two holes but once it's setup and I'm happy I will strip it and run a small steel tube through the top tube and grind and feather it back into the top tube so I have a completely sealed channel to avoid any water getting in.

  • Hasn't been grammed .. tbh i was on holiday and overall sloppy recently so might've missed ..

Make sure to use anti seiz on those cantis mounts .. @edscoble had a mare of time removing mine once

  • Nah it's not been grammed for a while. Yeah I'm sure I'll pack them full of grease I've heard enough people having trouble with them

  • Quirk ordered the mounts, they're pre mitred but will require some level of shaping to fit the aero tubing on the forks and stays. They look and feel solid, the bosses are steel and the studs are anodised Alu. Frames feeling great now I've adjusted the bars and hoods

  • i know you know this, and rob knows this, but in that last pic where you are holding the mounts against the frame, they are the wrong way round right?

couldn't not say anything just in case!

(unless those brakes require diff studs?)

  • Awesome mate, looking forward to this. And also loving how quickly it's all going to be done! When the day comes mine will be needing this then I know where to turn. What's the paint situation going to be with this?

  • Yeah they were only shaped one way at that point so I just offered them up to see really. Rears are on now

  • We discovered that with both the 42 & 49 tooth the wheel was in the dropouts in the same place once the chain was split so we decided to set the rear canti jig to position the mounts mid dropout so if I decide to run smaller tyres or a bigger rear cog we have plenty of play in the brake pads. Fingers crossed it works

  • Yeah man all being well and it goes to plan I'll offer a hand, robs a good guy to know. Happy with how quick it's turned around so far and it's only cost me the price of my old BMW wheelset. As for paint I'm gonna leave it for now, Maybe just primer the new raw areas to prevent rust as I still have some welding to do later on in the year to properly seal the internal cable routing (which is another £120 and a long days work rob said) once we know everything runs ok. Thinking of adding bottle bosses on later also too.

Once I get new decals from Brooklyn when my pal goes I'll get it stripped again and I'm thinking black with flouro splatter something different, hoping for flouro decals if poss

  • It should be fine IMO

    What rims?

  • I'm running the current wheels, Phil wood - archetypes with cx rays

  • The reason i put 25c tyres on was Coz I was sick of going slow on the 35c's I was running for the long commute.

Have a gander at folding Kojak in 35mm, very light, comfortable and fast for everything.

  • Interesting. Thanks for feedback. Looks awesome. Great choice of crankset as well

  • If it is clunky when you engage I would spend a little more and get a nicer freewheel. The rest of the parts are so nice seems a shame for this to let it down.

My WI's one is fantastic, heard that Halo Clickster is decent too. Loud is good ;)

  • Totally agree dude, once the whole setup is running ok, a 42 tooth chainring and new freewheel is on the cards. Didn't wana suffer £70 incase the whole idea ended shit, the halo clickster is meant to be nice but let's be honest I should settle for nothing less than a WI, may even go the whole hog and get motorreen to paint it

  • The halo clickster is meant to be nice but let's be honest I should settle for nothing less than WI.

It's half the price of the WI, and just as good, you won't notice the difference unless you ride very slowly.

It's a lots of money to lose if you worn the freewheel out.

  • You'll have to let me know what the Conti's are like @Nice_Ben, I'm kinda stuck for a tyre change at the moment, Clement's are at the top, but I know Conti's are good as well

  • So it's been about about 10 days since i posted, been away on holiday, left the Brooklyn to get the welding done, returned from my trip and spent the last week fiddling with brakes.

Pretty happy with progress. Basically welding went great, discovered that 42:18 and 49:18 use the same position into the dropouts so welding the brackets was fairly straight forward, rob smashed it. Fitting the brakes was another issue, something I've never done before, I'm new to v brakes so struggled a bit but went to hackney peddlar in shoreditch to see Tom, hung out had some beers and we set it up. It looks fucking rowdy I'm stoked but I need to ride it for a while before I'm fully convinced

  • It looks exactly how i imagined it, Geo is a bit aggressive coz the fork has already been cut but it rides amazing. Tyres are running in nicely, you have to run the brakes really close to the rims to get a nice pull on the lever but once tweaked its braking beautifully. Only issue is the rear stays are flexing slightly coz of the pressure from the brake so I'm looking into a brake booster that ill potentially have to modify to strengthen the rear, but saying that I've been bombing around the last few days and I've had no problems.

  • Robs away now for a few weeks so i have a while to get used to it and run it in but next on the agenda is

    . Camo Bar Tape
. Fill and smooth welds now we know brackets are correct
. Pull dent on top tube
. Seal internal cable routing by running small steal tube through top tube
. Potentially matt clear coat over welds once surface rust appears until i decide on respray project

  • Ill need to run the bike in CX mode and back in Track mode brakeless with risers again now the brackets are welded to see how it looks once the surface rust appears to be fully satisfied it still looks how i want it too with it back in track mode without the brackets standing out too much. The final plan is to send the bike to motoreeen for a full rat look paint job which will deter your eye from the brackets when in track mode coz the bike will essentially look ratty and almost like an old conversion.

I've been working with rene getting together some inspiration but I'm thinking along these lines

Do the TRPs and the Sram levers have the same cable pull?
