  • Yea stuck bike parts are the worst! Not sure im too into the soda stuff either..

    Det hedder en bajonetsav :)

  • Have you tried the Peacock Groove-trick for stuck seatposts?
You drill a hole in the BB-shell and use a long metal rod to hammer the post from the underside?

    • you get a drainage hole to boot.
  • Hah i didnt know that was one of his things! Seems smart, but i cant imagine i have anything layin around that fits the job.. I tried banging it super hard with a hammer from the top down, just to get a bit of movement in it. Nothing.

  • I don't know, if he invented it - but at some point he passed it on like some secret bike guru stuff.
I guess you need a good length of solid 6-8mm steel rod and even so it might not work.
But if all else fails, take it to BenBen

  • haha yea i commented "cool" on that video. Not a bad idea to clamp the post like that tho..

I like how he tries to loosen the vice the wrong way afterwards :)

  • And I thought I had come up with the idea to drill a hole in the seatpost perpendicular to the seat tube and the use that to get leverage. Turns out, they've done that too .
But I have a feeling that might work best on steel posts, as an aluminium one might just shear.

  • I love that GT more every time I see a picture of it! What helmet do you use? Looks good

  • Cheers and cheers! Seems to be the case for me as well ;)

Helmet is a Protec B2. There's the EPS version with the big bulky hard foam stuff, and then there's this one with EVA foam. Slimmer profile but probably less safe..

  • What are the mudguards you have on the GT?

  • Oops sorry. They're totally random, also dumpster finds. The front is one of those rear city mtb ones, but has great coverage and holds well for the front wheel. The rear looks like it could be sks. just barely fits 2.3" slicks :)

  • New adventure bike project that ive been waiting on for what has felt like ages, mostly because my Ti cross/touring bike's lack of tire clearance and disk brakes has been bugging me. Now that this new disc brake bigger tired project is here, ill be able to enjoy my cross/touring bike more for what its good at, and not be bummed about what its not :)

So i bought the frame + fork + headset off a guy in Alberta, Canada at the beginning of this year. Got it shipped to my parents place in Vancouver, and its been sitting there ever since. Having just gotten back from a visit over there, i brought it back with me to denmark, and now im pretty stoked to get it built up.

Its an unbranded 26" titanium mtb with a disc tab welded on after the fact. Made in the USA, and identical to the old Cove Hummer. The CK headset and the kona p2 fork are a huge bonus, especially since the forks got the lowrider mounts!

My GT has really got me to love 26" for all types of riding (even road and gravel). Iv also always had a dream of building a set of wheels on trials rims to get a nice and stable/ wide footprint on normal mtb sized tires, after seeing a surly 1x1 with a similar wheelset.

The frame fits 700x35 easily, as well as 26x2.2 with room to spare. So hopefully the wide rims will still allow a 2.3 slick and a 2.2 knobby tire. Ive also got my hopes up on 27.5 x 2.1" thunderburts being able to fit..

    enough jibber jabber, heres pictures

something kinda weird about the disc tab though, he didnt weld the lower inside part.. the previous owner was also a tall guy (much heavier than me) and has been riding with discs for 2-3 years, and a local frame builder in vancouver also said he wouldnt worry about it.

im not too worried about it

I like to think of this project as a mix of my GT daily and my Ti cross/tourer.

  • That is dope. Disc tab won't be an issue at all. There is no side ways movement there

  • Aaaand the rims :D

Echo SL 26" - 45mm wide and 607g (pretty much a velocity dually spec, just wack looking and half the price)

I cant quite figure out what hubs i want to go with. Im thinking something nice like CK, buy may also be down with Superstars Electro hubs with 102 engagement points.

Iv just ordered a 650b wheelset with those hubs and 30mm int. rims, so ill see if i like them enough to buy a separate pair of hubs (probably in their ano blue/turquoise) <3

  • More snazzy off-road ti, nice. I know the feeling regarding disc. Would love to 650b my cross-check

  • Dat TI tho!

  • Nice, makes sense. Just seems silly to not do it in the first place..
@alialias yea the fat tire life is good. You could always sell and get a straggler ;)

  • very cool frameset!!

  • Less heat means less distortion and less risk of cracking. Maybe thats something to consider on TI.

  • The more you know! Definitely is a thing. Got my Ti roadbike repaired and the heat may have caused a little crack to develop..

  • 700x45c fits like a charm, but handles kind of funny. No hands riding feels "floppy", as if the bike doesnt track straight and wants to turn a little bit to either side of the middle.

Im a bit behind on the whole trail, rake, and bb heigh section of geometry in relation to riding handling, but i could imagine that it steers like this because the outer diameter of 700x45c is much larger than the 26x2.2" it most likely was designed for.. http://www.bikecalc.com/wheel_size_math - this is brilliant for checking rim + tire full outer diameter sizes!

This mockup is also mostly just to see what it looks like with wheels, but damn a brakeless and chainless pump around a parking lot (with speedbumps ;)) made me realize how much fun this bike will be!

the front wheel sits a bit crooked in the fork, so may need to do some filing..

  • So nice, I need to find me something like that.

  • Might need aligning? Cool project though!

  • more pressure.... :)

trail should get longer with bigger tires/wheels -> slower steering
    http://yojimg.net/bike/web_tools/trailcalc.php

  • Tire pressure? It wasnt awfully low..

Its the same feeling i got when i put a temporary replacement fork on a cross bike that had a 15mm longer a-c. so maybe something to do with the head and seat angle or bb height?

Im excited to see how the steering feels with a smaller diameter wheels. Maybe ill test with 29er in the back and smaller in the front to simulate a shorter a-c..

  • Thanks, similar frames pop up on pinkbike sometimes. My struggle was getting a frame that was big enough, and this one barely cuts it (20")

@Turkish Aligning how? I can only think of dropouts not being parallel and the spacing being off, but cant get that to equate a "vertically" crooked wheel. Cheers!
