Mine are a bit behind, but they’ll catch up! And today got the polytunnel done (see gardening thread) so hopefully they’ll do well.

Ha, I was imagining something small-ish - that thing is bigger than my flat!

Haha yeah I don’t have a space issue here. I’m thinking of putting a hammock up in it :)

Beginning to get a couple of flowers appearing. Bit of a lottery as to which is which, but jalapeño, cayenne and scotch bonnets in the mix.

Aphids - bleeding thousands of them.
How much of a problem are they and what's the best method to get rid?
Jalapeños coming on strong now, but no sign of scotch bonnets yet. -

Aphids - bleeding thousands of them.
How much of a problem are they and what's the best method to get rid?Had my fair share of them as well this year.
They are a problem as they target the new leaves (they get curly and sick). Also they really like the blossoms, which looks really shit but actually fruit are still developing fine it seems.Gently showering the plants regularly helps but can be a hassle depending on how many you have.
Planting garlic in the same pot is supposed to help but I would be lying if I said that I noticed great results with this method.
Spraying neem oil on the plants is supposed to really keep them away as they hate the scent, unfortunately I hate the scent as well.Basically what I do is shower the fuckers down the drain regularly and then cheer at every useful animals that are coming on my plants (caterpillar and similar).

Ta. Will carry on spraying them and squidging the obvious ones.

Marigolds also good for keeping aphids at bay

That's good to know, thanks!
Will plant some with the chili seedlings next year. -

While on the topic (and I can't believe I'm actually writing this as this may be the first time in my life I'm saying something positive about these things) -
WASPS!
Apparently wasp season has started here in Berlin, as this day I witnessed two of them browsing one plant after the other, it was downright carnage right there on my windowsill, I was much impressed and left feeling thankful. -

I'm planning to grow some chillis in my Aerogarden so want a plant that is relatively small. Any suggestions?
-
• #767
Do you want hot or mild or just decorative chilis?
-
• #768
Mild through to reasonably hot, don't really mind.

I reckon one could grow most of the chinense variety with a small form factor (give them less light / soil and they stay small, or just prune them), yet what I think would look very nice in your case (and also work well as they grow more compact in general) is Aji Charapita

Your Rhomboideum is very different to the rest

It is.

It's a bit Jack & the Rhomboideum Stalk, fantastic.

Cheers, they look interesting.
The Aerogarden is like a hydroponics setup so there is a lot of light and nutrients.

Haha.
Actually that picture is a few weeks old already; this is how it looks now, after a few windy days outside (turns out the trunk wasn't yet as woody as I thought it was)
