What camera do I buy? / general gear talk

  • Yep, the lightroom seems like a gimmick. Trying to edit on a 4", low res screen seems a bit pointless when most people are carrying out phones with bigger, hi res screens (and probably more processing power).

Obviously I'm not saying the cameras are comparable.

  • It looks as thought the Zeiss camera is running android judging by the triangle/circle/square on one of the photos of Lightroom on the camera.
Maybe they'll open it up to run more apps ? Seems a bit silly to put android on it just to run Lightroom.

  • Ooh, interesting!
Funny that they got someone who never bought a previous iteration because of a lack of zoom to review it, but of course this is basically just for the aesthetics since it was a non-working model.

  • it ALL verges on image quality. The tinier it is the weaker case it has to survive against iPhone camera especially with a fixed focal length.

    Totally agree.

Sorry for my snappy response earlier!

  • Here’s a wild idea for Ricoh...

Why not keep the flash, but shrink and slim the camera by ditching the screen and using an optical viewfinder finder. Leica did it.

The old 35mm version was just so much nicer to shoot with and to pocket.

  • Just reading DPR, fairly split on flash or not. I never used mine much, but then as someone who never properly learned flash usage maybe I missed shots that could have succeeded with it.

  • For a digital compact like that with an aps-c sensor you'd don't need flash, as the article says high ISO performance is good enough. You can always put one on the hot shoe if you want a specific effect and there's some fairly tiny flashes around now

  • Sad face

  • Hybride Fujifilm X-E3

  • That's a shame, Ffordes have always seemed really nice people when I've bought stuff from them in the past

  • One of the things I loved doing with the old tiny-sensor GRDs was to shoot black and white with the flash on but super low - it made these amazing late-night portraits with the subjects picked out and the background all dark and blurry. A bit Terry without the horrible misogyny and less colour. So I’m in two minds about the new camera. It looks great in every other respect but I enjoyed the flash.

Totally. IIRC the f1.8 version was the first that had really good, fast to use manual control over the flash power.

Also fill flash is invaluable in daylight portraits of course ... or when you might not have a reflector.

  • Wrong thread :)

  • Couldn't decide which focal length to try first between 25/28/35 on the Orient Express lenses for the A6000, so I let price decide. There is a Pixco branded 25/1.8 on the evil-zon discounted to £45.79 apparently eligible for Prime delivery. Will find out if it realy arrives tomorrow. So since it should be identical to the 7Artisans at £30 dearer, finger's crossed.

It is pretty buried, the algorithms they use must really hate that seller.

  • Lol. The sellers business address: shan kou xin cun 18 dong 2 dan yuan
    jiang dong jie dao
    Yi wu
    zhe jiang
    322099
    CN

    Good luck!

  • Yea. But at least it said fulfilled by amazon.

  • Sleepless night...!

  • Form factor on that looks spot on!

  • It still feels a little front-heavy, because the lens is surprisingly weighty and the A6000 so light...

The focus/aperture rings feel a little slack (as per all reviews online, and ‘easy’ to fix) but the size is great. For the £46 I will not complain.

Could do with being a bit smaller, but it’s a whole stop faster than the pancake equivalent 28/2.8.

It feels like a rangefinder lens, more a Canon RF lens than a Leica one, but not as light or nimble as Voigtlaender.

  • With focus peaking it’s not awful. Certainly a strain trying to handheld manual focus up minimum distance without adequate light. But very pleased, very close minimum focus and nice and soft OOF areas wide open.

  • Nice! I didn't doubt it for a second.
