  • With strategies copied from secret agencies/long use government propaganda, I am not too happy about their free run. Even if this didn't swing Brexit, what they learned is useful.

Oh, they were also involved in a dictatorship somewhere.

In any case, their use of data for political gains w/o telling anybody is very clear cut.

  • I err on the side of 'ad guys pitching', but do think the polarising messages neatly dropped into the most relevant / excitable crowd, then optimised, is guaranteed to shift it from 'another ad ignored' to 'ooh, let me share this' - which is where they probably had some sort of impact clogging news feeds.

And, to @JWestland 's point, the complete lack of factual accountability for any of the content allows them to be even more 'appealing'.

  • Predominantly, the reviews are good ones.

The review that caught my eye was this one

I bought this expecting a serious discussion of facts, policy debates, analysis of causes etc. given the blurb and reviews but I have been extremely disappointed. A standard polemicist lacking any insight, a book full of anecdotes and simplistic statements- lacking thoughtful cohesion other than the usual far right scaremongering, some of it particularly inflammatory. Many will clearly enjoy garden variety prejudice in a formal setting but for those who are seeking a more open debate and consider Britain to be a plural and tolerant global leader avoid wasting your money on this book.

  • It's Murray's homage to Enoch Powell and "Rivers of Blood" that really show his moral and intellectual distinctiveness. "Tommy Robinson in tweed" he's been called.

  • This is a great piece on the tribal identity of those who think they've outgrown the concept of tribes, about their leader, Sam Harris.

  • because most of them are your sockpuppet accounts?

renting an opinion informed by other people's efforts because fuck knows you're incapable of coming up with any all by yourself. how very manmick of you.

    shhh now little man.

  • and most of them are swivel eyed chucklefucks who spout shit like:

Stating that ISlam is poison is not a sweeping generalisation. It's a fact.
If you don't have pride in your country and its culture and heritage no one will. Especially foreign migrants...

actually this one's pretty on the money. nearly.

Douglas Murray: The rich man's Tommy Robinson. I'm a Murray fan.

anyway. don't you have a ben shapiro video to go and touch yourself to?

  • I think Will is right on this matter, I've put the guy on ignore and this thread is much more readable as a result.

  • Except now it's basically just Dammit talking to himself (which as I'm sure it was an alias of Dammit anyway changes nothing).

  • Rumbled- seeking validation in YouTube comments wasn’t very realistic I guess, even for a character as stupid as Mamnick.

  • We've all learned a lesson today.

  • Then ask yourself if people like Murray stand up for immigrants and Muslims who fight for liberal values.

    Like Ayaan Hirsi Ali?

I get your point but be careful of assumptions.

  • No worries.

When ppl express ridiculous ideas I usually try and bother to make an argument. It’s either a healthy or very unhealthy habit, I haven’t decided yet :D

  • Your point about Roger Scruton and James Dellingpole pushing "views for cash", what is that? Can you elaborate?

There is a class of journalist who carefully align their views and agenda with that of capital. It starts at school. One is our current PM actually. For example a campaign of op-eds to move the Overton window on a subject (fracking, free schools, ppp hospitals, gm trials, the list is endless). You know who owns the papers in which they feature?

  • Yes. That's your group identity. The group which rejects group identities. See the problem?

    Lol, that’s pretty weak.

There will always be debate about the values assigned to groups and the value of assigning value to groups!

  • On that topic, something for the Spanish speakers amongst us:

  • Absolutely. But this isn't about the VALUE of groups, just their EXISTENCE. And when a person's entire troll identity is about saying they don't 'believe' in identity politics? All. Bets. Are. Off.

  • No no no all wrong, you should throw expletives at them, preferably really crap middle class ones, then accuse them of being bigoted and close minded and wait for e-back slaps

  • Closed minded.

  • Autocorrect etc.

  • Sorry, I meant you withering fannywomble

  • From my understanding exploitation of identity politics is what they object to. They don’t object to groups or identities. That would be mental.

  • ... you cocktrumpet.

  • Please use the ignore function everyone, you’re a few days out from a general election and you are letting some mindless troll derail you from discussing real issues while you all run around repeatedly calling him out. As someone who is partial to a spot of trolling on here I can say with absolute confidence that this is the sole objective of his interaction with you. He does not aim to convert you to his world view and you will never alter his, leave the conversation, put him on ignore and get on with more meaningful discussion.

For those of you who have me on ignore, please disregard this message.

  • Read the piece I linked. That's precisely what they do
