• i would bet on bead, rim tape or valve. it might look good but there is no way to tell until you have removed the tyre and reinstalled it.

  • Bead might be it. I doubt it's the wheel as they're new, setup tubeless from "factory" and have had no leaks with my previous tyres.

  • 30mm. I use the sram and/or silca tyre pressure guide, so for my setup it had <70psi for road/tarmac riding.

  • The tape is probably a good bet too, but latex doesn't work very well at road pressures in my experience

  • On second thoughts, the tape is most likely okay. I'm with you on latex. I chose this Muc-Off sealent for its claims to being able to handle higher pressures, but so far it hasn't lived up to it.

  • Coming in to thoroughly +1 OKO after a recommendation up the thread. Sealed up a couple of tyres I'd been having problems with.

  • You got an old spray bottle you can make some soapy water spray with? It was the only thing that clued me into the spoke leakage (bad tape issue) I had.

  • Sorry just to check, which OKO are you using? Keen to get a bottle of it but there seem to be a few options. Thanks

  • Sorry for the Amazon link but it's this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Off-Road-Tyre-Sealant-Puncture/dp/B006THGZZ2

Again on the recommendation up the thread I diluted it 50/50 with distilled water. 120ml completely fixed what MucOff sealant couldn't.

  • Great, thanks. I've avoided Amazon as much as I can for years, but it does often have the stuff you're looking for...😕

  • There are a few shops on eBay that sell it with fast postage.

  • Just wanted to say thanks again for the recommendation. Here was the before... 🙈

  • No worries. It’s great that it actually works(!), but my favourite thing about it is how clean it is. I like to change tyres and this is the only sealant that doesn’t make that a horrendous sticky chore.

  • I like to change tyres

Got some of that coming up soon, what's your hourly rate?

  • Changing tyres is an intensely personal experience. I wouldn’t want to deny it from you.

  • Does rim tape have a shelf life? i.e. will it no longer be as effective if bought and left in its packaging and unused for a period of time? The Muc Off tape I've had for a couple of years seems to have lost some of its stickiness.

  • Another question to all tubeless experts - worth having a syringe for intermediate top ups through the valve (with core removed I presume)? Guessing a syringe isn't needed for initial setup.

Any recommendations for a syringe, or just anything with a needle which fits inside the valve stem?

    Thanks again

  • Someone gave me a Stans NoTubes injector, was a bit sceptical at first but use it all the time with regular Stans, you can't inject the chunkier race stuff.. well you can but you inject mostly water... Ask me how I know 🥲

  • anything with a needle which fits inside the valve stem?

Errm I'm not sure about a needle, it doesn't need to be fine on the injection end.
    I used something like this
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184566051634
Which works perfectly but the downsides are that it needs to be straight with the valve so depending on your rim depth and valve length, it can end up being difficult to get the angle with the cassette and rotor in the way.
I've also used an actual sealant syringe from Mavic which is identical except has a short rubber hose that fits over the valve rather than inside. Solves the space problem but requires more tissue paper wiping afterwards.

Which reminds me, remember the "settle an argument for me" thread? Lol

  • A Stans 60 ml bottle does the job.

  • i would confirm above advice, in my experince you shouldn't need much pressure to inject sealant and a small bottle with the right sized mount should be enough. if it doesn't, you valve is probably blocked.
the stan bottle has the right size to be manipulated between spokes and to take with you touring, bikepacking, etc.

  • I use X-Sauce siringes in the workshop. Long enough to reach the bottom of 5l sealant bottles and can load a Mtb tire in one go. Maybe hard to source in the UK.
Many sealant bottles are made so you can apply through the valve anyways, Stan's, giant or schwalbe 60ml bottles to name a few.

  • I use one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404613743620 with a length of fish tank air hose slipped over the end and then the valve.

  • Another advantage of an injector is that you can use it to suck up the sealant that is left in tyres when you remove them so it can be reused

  • You can also do that with a 60 ml bottle👌
