• I thought the move with the lezyne pumps is you tap the little depressurising button before trying to unscrew it? I've never had an issue but know people who have...

  • Anyone ever ran old 26" Campanolo Stheno rims tubeless? Going to run 2.3 DTH tyres.

  • Snap, just picked up one of those wheels today and was idly wondering the same thing

  • Looks like the have a decent lip on them, so I think the answer will be yes.

  • Had this issue with unscrewing the value core. Found giving a moment to cool after pumping up seems to do the trick.

  • I wonder if those might be a pita to get tyres on though. Do they have much depth of a centre channel? A lot of rims from that era don’t.

  • Can challenge "open tubular" tyres be set up tubeless, despite challenge saying they are not tubeless?

  • No. Fabric sidewalls won't seal.

They are meant to be bringing something out using a sealed open tubular tubeless system like Vittoria's Crosa tubeless range

  • Back to Vittoria Terreno Mix it is then

  • They do already have tubeless versions out. I was close to ordering some this week but couldn't justify the price so I went for their vulcanised versions which don't have the cotton sidewalls.

They've basically just coated the inside of their regular handmade clinchers in latex and called it done

same as vittoria then I guess. Beads ar enormally tight enough already!

Seen that FMB have something similar? Not sure I want to be the guinea pig though....

We need @Dick for that sort of thing

Well, that is what you'd do if you wanted to make a fast tubeless tyre.

  • Yeah not meant as a criticism. I'd have bought them but just couldn't justify the £75 RRP

  • Errr... ignore... wrong thread

  • This will explain the puncture last night at 10pm. It was pitch black so I only just spotted it.
The flint was deeply embedded in the tyre, the leak of tubeless fluid occurred as I pulled it out

  • What you've got there is the fang of a pigmy sabretooth tiger, popular garden pets and known to escape and go on the the hunt for seal ants.

  • Can you tell whether it is from the Northern or Southern Pigmy Sabretooth Tiger sub-species? I'm geussing Northern as I thought they had a penchant for Gravelkings but I'm no expert.

  • You'd be correct, if it wasn't for that subtle darker colouration towards the bottom of the tooth, I'd age it at around 213yrs old (a bit long in the tooth you might say!) and Southern, looks to have been slightly malnourished in these tougher climes this year, with all the stock issues not much rubber is finding its way into the countryside.

  • I'm geussing Northern as I thought they had a penchant for Gravelkings but I'm no expert.

Gravykings. Special edition (brown) for northerners.

  • I've got some 45mm tanwall WTB Riddlers on the grrls bike that are an old version and have no mention of tubelessness. Is there any reason (other than me producing more TLR rants) not to attempt to tubelessify them on her Sequoia Hayfield wheels?

  • I had to redo the tape several times on my Sequoia Hayfields before they stopped leaking air through the spokes. But I was fitting 35mm tyres (Marathon Supremes) at higher pressures, so you might have an easier time of it.

On the other hand I've never had any trouble setting up non-tubeless-specific tyres, even wire bead ones, on tubeless-ready rims.

  • Thanks for the info. What tape were you using on them?

My yellow Tesa tape is in storage but I think I have the see-through green stuff somewhere here. I'm not sure on the width yet though. She's gonna ride the 45s around with tubes for a while so they take shape nicely before I try TLing them.

I also have my 700x50 GK SK+ from Badlands that I might give her instead. The Seq seems to have a tonne of clearance.

  • It came with the see-through green stuff and then I rewrapped it with Gorilla tape (or B&M's equivalent: ‘T-Rex tape’). Haven't tried proper Tesa tape though I'm aware it's possibly better

  • Most of mine have been done with Tesa but I had issues on my road rims with GK SK+ 50mm.
I think that width of tape I had just wasn't providing enough coverage. I need to look for the green and see how wide it is compared to the rims. Thanks again for the info.
