Standard piece:
There was another death, of Melissa Burr, in Terminus Place in 2021.
I don't know of others, but the bus station is so tight and busy that there must be regular personal injury incidents. RIP unknown pedestrian.

She has been named as Catherine Finnegan, 56, originally from Galway.

Now there's talk about a possible redesign of the bus station:
I don't know its history but imagine it must have been there since before the days of horse-drawn buses, and would initially have been a drop-off space for passengers using any kind of horse-drawn carriage. Personally, I've always found the stops in the centre quite inaccessible and disliked the one-way system around the perimeter. It would be interesting to know how its safety record has been over the years.

The inquest for the crash I posted about here is sitting.
Police helicopter footage captured the moment a stolen Land Rover ploughed through a 6ft high maize field to try to evade officers, before returning to the road and causing a fatal crash.
[...]
Jablonski, of Mutfordwood Lane, Carlton Colville, Suffolk, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing at Norwich Crown Court to causing death by dangerous driving, Norfolk Police said.
He also admitted causing death while driving without insurance and while disqualified, aggravated vehicle-taking and criminal damage.
He was jailed for 11 years over the incident, plus a further one year for an unrelated previous offence for which he originally received a suspended sentence, the force said.
He was banned from driving for 13 years.
Urbaniak, of All Saints Road, Newmarket, Suffolk, pleaded guilty at a previous hearing at Norwich Crown Court to aggravated vehicle-taking and burglary.
He was jailed for two years and banned from driving for two years, Norfolk Police said.
The police here pursue burglars driving a stolen car that they'd taken that day, returning to the scene of the crime. The driver is drunk and ends up killing another driver, trying to get away from the police despite the presence of a helicopter (which he may not have noticed).
What always gets me is when people equipped with such powerful machines as motor vehicles veer out of control for whatever reason, drunkenness or prior guilt or whatever, and end up causing tragedies like this.

And also for some insane reason aren't banned for life from driving
-
• #683
The theory, and I don't know how much of this is based on evidence, is that a lot of people with lifetime bans will ignore it and drive regardless because there isn't that carrot of being able to drive in the future that comes with a limited ban (and to get a lifetime ban there's a pretty good chance you're not a law-abiding driver).

Which is why we need all cars to be fitted with immobilizers unless you have inserted your biometrically linked multi pass, as demonstrated by Korben Dallas.

And another crash near Victoria Station, with a woman sustaining life-threatening injuries.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68952149
It looks from the photographs as if the driver was turning into Terminus Place from Buckingham Palace Road. The bus is shown on the wrong side of the carriageway there, so perhaps the driver tried to swerve or the bus was moved after the incident.
If she succumbs to her injuries, it will be the third fatal collision there in two years.

A horrible fatal crash in Bexleyheath, with the bus driver who caused it suspected of dangerous driving and drug-driving. The victim was nine-year old Ada Bicakci.
The male driver of the bus was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and drug-driving. He has been bailed to a date in early November pending further enquiries.
I expect that he will be charged with 'causing death by ...' offences.
This is the junction where or near where it happened:
There only seems to be one bus route there, the number 96.
RIP little Ada.

What an awful tragedy. As it's not said whether he drove an articulated LGV or a rigid one, or which direction he was coming from, it's not possible to work out how he made the turn (or which side of the entrance she was lying on). He said he thought she was a bin bag and a duvet, but why then risk driving over that?
RIP Nicole Cummings.

A crash outside Victoria Bus Station, at this junction (as shown in the picture):
While this isn't in the bus station itself, the crash may have been caused by a bus driver turning into Vauxhall Bridge Road from Wilton Road, and therefore either from the bus stop in Wilton Road, or from the main part of the bus station, with the problem here being the continuing presence of the Victoria one-way system.
All best wishes to the victim.

A distressing crash on a stretch of Barking Road in Plaistow with one fatality. A driver seems to have come off the carriageway in Barking Road and nearly crashed into the café on the corner of Tunmarsh Lane, where, judging by the pictures in the article below, the police tent may indicate the spot where the young woman died. Unusually, there's even a picture said to show the immediate aftermath of the crash. It seems the car was deflected from crashing fully into the café by a combination of street furniture and a parked car. After this, it seems to have spun around and onto its side. People then seemingly lifted the crashed car off the victim (who is not visible in the footage). The driver was arrested.

A two-year-old killed by a driver in a cul-de-sac. It's not clear if this was a hit-and-run; the bit about not stopping may refer to the mother trying to get the driver to stop before hitting her son.
Someone seems to have forgotten to edit the LAS press release from whatever boilerplate text they started with and it mentions 'Acton Lane'.
Rowley Close is here:
RIP little man.

Holy fuck. What the fuck etc etc.
A businessman who mowed down a group of teenagers with his 4x4 before reversing over one of them after becoming infuriated at them walking in the middle of the road has avoided jail.

Guilty of murder! seems an odd verdict seeing as she’d deployed a bingo list of driver get out of jail free cards.
She should have gone with the full proof the sun was in my eyes or just I forgot what happened, that tends to work.
