  • This way it'll get a modern groupset, and be used

    That's a good call.

Can't help but thinking that a SRAM Red Gen 1 Limited Tour Edition with the yellow accents would look baller on this frame. There is one for sale on ebay right now, just a heads up

  • Dura Ace or Sram Red. Needs flashes of silver.

I went for Campagnolo Record but I'm with you on the 'flashes of silver' part.

Think it compliments the paint job nicely.

  • This is so freaking good!

The mix of black and silver parts is just perfect; really suits the frame indeed. Only thing I would change is get a setback post for that Flite, but otherwise lovely bike. I should get double HEDs...

Edit: Oh, excuse me, this was your thread @Dammit.

  • If I can find one in NOS condition I was thinking Syncros Altura stem with matching "back in the day" Syncros seatpost, DA 9000, and maybe Hyperons.

  • Just go for Thompson silver bits, DA9000 and C24's. It'll look boss.

  • I've always associated Syncros with mtb gear @Dammit, can't picture it on a race bike.
Most Kleins came with a Thompson post, at least in the mid 90's.
DA9000 will look boss as @SeƱor_Bear said but it needs a quill stem.

  • Here's a shitty pic with Hyperons for inspiration

  • Use a quill converter

  • Everything goes

  • why should he use a clumsy quill adapter? The bars look nice to me.

I would not change anything ATM. :)

btw, why do people refer to Thomson as Thom(p)son? :O :)

a large thumbsup for the brownie walled tyres.

  • one brief question though:

how compliant is the ride at the hind with the zero setback large diametre alloy seatpost? Mere logic would assume that it is at the opposite end compared to a skinny 27.2mm 25mm offset carbon post. (ie.: can be a bit harsh-punishing)

  • Here's a shitty pic with Hyperons for inspiration

I think they look great, deffo want to find a pair for mine.

  • I had a klein with pressfit bb,
you should measure the BB shell, mine was 74 or 76 mm wide i dont remember exact, but it will be a problem if you want to use modern cranks with integrated axle :/

  • Some were 73, some 76 - the chap from Phil Wood has talked me through this and we have a solution.

  • If you want a rider get a rider.
This is a unique Klein, with a lot of the story of cycling in it. Go and run it with modern stuff so you can go and ride it, if it is the only bike you have.
Or respect that it exists in a point in time that represents a phase in the evolution of cycling.
You have just acquired a unique frame. Make it no more than any bike that Evans could sell you, or respect it's heritage.
    Your call.

  • Would you ride this if it was yours?

  • Yeah come on. It's either period correct or you may as well have a BTwin

  • Is my Serotta CSi a BTwin?

  • I think it would look Nice With DA9000.

Personally I'd build it up With all silver finishing kit, and a silver groupset. That would match the frames vintage enough for me. So long as you're not filing bits off. Build it to the best Balance of ride and looks.

To be honest I'd probably do the unoriginal thing of chucking a silver Sram Rival groupset on. I always think that groupset Works well on older frames. More Budget friendly.

  • Forgive my ignorance, but what makes this, or indeed any Klein, so special? I appreciate their aesthetics but I don't understand why they're held in such high esteem.

But anyway, bikes that get ridden > bikes that get posed with. Old frame with modern group is slave2max.

Don't fuck about, Dura Ace 9000 with 55/42 DA SRM.

    And your Hed Stingers.

  • Or respect that it exists in a point in time that represents a phase in the evolution of cycling.

    Heh, it's only a bike.

  • build it to ride while you accumulate the period group, then build it up catalogue spec when you can

  • Or don't ride old bike parts cos they're generally not as good as new ones?

  • Forgive my ignorance, but what makes this, or indeed any Klein, so special?

Gary Klein was a trailblazer with Alu, radpaint, system integration. Basically everything Cannondale became famous for, but without teh cracking.

  • maybe a respray?
