Fearless Vulture.
Those two are more CX than road.

looks a little beefy and heavy but it probably isnt.
I may be replacing the genesis volare with an all road so I still want it to be punchy when it needs to be!!

This is perfect! fit 32 slick for road riding, 650b for a bit of touring with some surly forks for all the mounts?

Its long and low, all Ritchey bikes are.
You are such a sucker for #insta depth of field .. move to SoCal work in Golden Saddle Cyclery.

It's steel but the geometry is more road-focus than CX hence the suggestion.

Designed for 650b rather than 700c though. That said, if it takes 650b X 47c, 700c X 40c might well work?

25 psi
Bloody hell! That's lower than some pro DH riders run!
-
• #5036
Yup, if it take 650b 47mm, then 700c will work perfectly well.
Needless to said, the 650b will be lighter and easier than a 700c with 40mm.

I sometimes ride on 25 psi
when I forget to check my tyre pressure for months on end... -

hmmm so started to look at my build of the boardman pro and was removing the ultegra triple as i always hated the fact it never worked properly --- then i had the thought of making it a super-compact double and started some research online
what came up was that i should have spacer on my triple (2 actually, one on the NDS and one on the DS) i have only the NDS side - which is probably the cause of the problems with the shifting....
if i wanted to go down the super compact route - would i need to change the middle chainring to one that is designed to be the last ring on the crank? an outer? or would the front mech be enough to stop it from dropping?

I have converted a triple to ultra compact on a few chainsets, but only 9spd flavour. Being a triple is the bcd 130? If so you may find you can get away with an older ring without ramps and pins, I have used a chain guard on the outer position for a nicer look too

I can see the reason behind heavy off roading needs, but on a gravel bike, is that really necessary?
-
• #5043
Just buy a new chainring, the only concern is the bolt sticking out a little on the NDS of the chainring due to not having a recessed slot, but other than that, you're sorted.
Double check if your inner ring look good, add 16t and you have the big ring of a super compact.

thanks for the info - some sweet looking guards out there too.... think i'll invest in that spacer thats missing though .
with this supercompact setup i might just drop the size of the cassette too at the back, esp. if i can pickup something on offer. -

I think I got the ticket.
Soma Fog Cutter.
It got the older post mount brakes, and quick release but the geometry is far more road like with a very steep head angle combine with a nominal fork rake mean you got a big with massive clearance and handle like a road bike.

Oii that aint a bad shout tbf...
Would need a new paint job though....
Bump up the pressure if you plan on hitting slick roads, you'll get stiff response and only few watts lost compared to 28c 700c's.
