I feel like down country is what most of us have been doing with our xc bikes the last few years. Personally I like it better then the nom de guerre "Trail Bike." WTF isn't that every mountain bike?

I must say I agree. It hate more terms and categories when used in marketing ploys, but down country is pretty much what I have been doing/wanting.
Next we need more sub genres within gravel grinding. Because American gravel bikes to me is drop bar MTBs and my kind of gravel bike is somewhere closer to a road bike... Sort of like a practical CX bike.

But that seem to have died down a bit and become 28-32mm tired road bikes no? Surely there is room for a 700c X 32-40mm gravel/all road/pave category...

Yeah. I guess they are great. But there has been a focus on racing with lack of bottle bosses, short head tubes etc in the past.

Ok I will go back to calling it all road. It is pretty inclusive. Is a trail a road? Actually path racer was quite a cool description

The trail question is a good one. There could be a case for ‘down-road’ here. Not sure if it will stand, but the case could be made.
