  • Rode the bike today for the first time. Unlike a suspension fork you hardly notice it's there, other then the ride being super smooth.

  • That black and orange one is great, but it seems mad to design a frame with cantilevers in these days (assuming that's it's a relatively recent frame)

Unless you have an especially fancy rim-brake wheelset that you can't sell I guess?

    What is it?

  • it seems mad to design a frame with cantilevers in these days

Yes, they stopped making the canti version about a year ago. They only do disc nowadays.
Also that rear cable routing looks horrible, don't think you get any stopping power out of that..

    What is it?

    It's a 2014 Squid CX

  • Squid CX w/ nicely done rattle can job

EDIT: beaten to the punch. It does make me want to rattle can the night away though.

  • At least if he crashes it, it won't look so fucked.

  • Lovin' that Ridley

  • Some questions for you knowledgeable lot:

    1. What are the differences between the various Arkose frames? It looks like on the more expensive ones (4) you get carbon steerer vs. alloy on the 3? Is that it?

    2. Same question for CdF frames - seems like you get Reynolds 725 on the more expensive ones vs. "Genesis MjÖlnir Seamless Double-Butted Cromoly" on the 10? Also nearly 4kg just for the frame?

    3. Can't decide if this Hoy would build up into a decent gravel bike or not? It's a flat-bar commuter so takes a rack obviously and clears 40mm tyres or 32mm with mudguards. And nearly clears 650b x 47mm apparently. I'm thinking it's no good - geometry is probably all wrong, right? But it is cheap-ish for a frame that builds up to about 10kg... could get some fancy wheels with the spare cash.

    4. Assuming I have a decent groupset already and some finishing kit, am I better off buying a frame and wheels separately, or buying a whole bike and trying to sell on the groupset? I suspect the latter but it's a load of faff that I'd rather not have to deal with. I'd need:
      a. cable disc brakes and rotors
      b. wheelset and tyres
      c. seatpost
      d. headset, depending on whether or not the frame includes one
      e. BB if it's press-fit or something
      f. new stem if the position is bad
      g. new tape, cables, outers, etc.
£150 excluding wheels and with some eBay parts?

  • What are those forks meant to do and how do they work? I'm guessing it's some sort of suspension type deal?

  • Leaf spring suspension, like in really old cars:

  • And they make you puke on cock

  • Effective weight saving.

  • What are the advantages of that over traditional suspension forks?

  • Nobody will want to steal it.

  • I have no clue..

  • like in really old cars

    And Corvettes

  • For one thing it's lighter. This random expensive 100mm travel fork weighs 1.65kg whereas the Lauf 60mm travel fork weighs 990g.

And requires "no" maintenance. And I think it's supposed to have less of a damping effect (as it's elastic deformation or whatever) so you don't waste as much energy going uphill and stuff.

  • Well yes.. But even corvettes have hydraulic dampers. And it's a single leaf for both left and right, acting in some ways like a anti-roll bar. None of that on a Lauf fork.

  • "no" maintenance

  • "no" maintenance

Technically still true, cus aint no maintenance fixin that shit

  • Anyone heard of Breezer bikes before?
