  • why didnt you tell me this before I purchased (yet to be used) Ritchey Beacon WCS?!

  • you did not submit the hourly rate payment in time

  • Where as with flare there is 'another' angle that puts your wrist in almost carpal tunnel syndrome position.

recently picked up zipps gravel specific xplr drops, they keep the hoods 'in line', benefits of a narrow road bar on the top and wide on the drops for gravel

  • yeah so do those 3T ones but so so fucking ugly

  • would love to hear @Dick and @PhilDAS 's thoughts on flared drops

  • "if your drops are flared, you should likely replace them as the crash may have done structural damage too"

  • optimum set up?

2cm wider than what you have on your road bike and same shape. If you need super wide flared bars and 40+ tyres, you really should brought an MTB instead of a stupid insta-bike.

  • you really should brought an MTB instead

Great advice, could someone add that to the thread title?

  • Don't see the point.
I can still use the drops and don't know what them being wider than the tops achieves. I'm not running out of control at their current width

  • My Nukeproof Digger has 50cm bars, ludicrous, I see little to no benefit in any situation. The flared drops are nigh on unrideable. Nice bike apart from that.

Built up a new gravel and went 44 (42 normally) with small flare (Zipp XPLR 70) and that might even be a bit much for big days. The drops are nice for a wee change and a sprint, as intended.

ugly is the design ethos for my Arkose but they are not thaaat bad*

*ignore the bar tape directions.. it was corrected.

39cm c-c at the top, 46cm at the drops.. tbh the biggest benefit is the extra room when there is a tent on there.

take this to the bike packing thread please, none of that talk here

  • I really quite like the flare of the ENVE gravel ones I’ve got on the open.
Nowhere near as obnoxious as the Salsa bars I had on the TCX

  • Are those 29er tyres on 700c rims or 29er wheels on a 700c frame or something else?

  • 2.25 tyres on 650b rims

  • Nice monstercross bike

  • Ha - it’s seen more Regents laps and Devon/Essex “road” riding than gravel and cross.

  • Best to keep in good condition for when you sell it in a few weeks...

  • I'm riding Salsa Cowbells 42cm on my gravel bike. 40cm on road. I appreciate the 12deg flare on them and definitely notice the difference in control to the previous straight bars and the 40cm road bars. DEfinitely don't feel the need to go any wider on a gravel biek.

  • That joke never gets old…. Much like my bikes
    NOT THIS TIME THO!
Actually had the open well over a year now and it’s seen it’s fair share of shit

  • When riding on the hoods, you are "on" the bike, a lack of attention timed well and you go OTB.
When riding in the drops, you are "in" the bike, bracing yourself more securely and with no risk to go OTB because of loss of grip.

  • Work in progress.
