  • Yes that is some premium dehydrated muddle you’ve got there.

  • #nogravel in Surrey on Saturday either. Here are some edited highlights

  • I don't see how anyone can be against 'gravel' bikes when you see this. Looks like a bloody good time.

  • thanks mate, it was :-)

  • Bearable on mute.

  • hehe, yeah sorry for the annoying electropop.

I normally like to tie my vids together with a decent copyrighted tune but then of course I can't upload it to youtube so its a bit pointless.

  • posted this in a horse forum, was sent here

  • That's very nice! Yours?

  • Spent the last 5 days living out of a hut and riding some actual gravel around the Trossachs.

Riding gravel is really tiring and it makes your hands sore. I wouldn’t recommend it.

  • Lots of lovely pics from the tour, but what the people want is some close ups of those grx jockey wheels after all this

  • WTF is this decent cycling content? This thread is for gravel marketing hype and 1x vs. 2x wars only.

  • The guy I was riding with runs an Alfine 8 speed. I’m converted. It’s the future.

  • My left hand lever is showing wear, I'm too embarrassed to post it.

  • I was really confused with the red bike photo then the green and black bikes in the shots and then I worked out you might've been a group of three. I think I should lay off the sauce for a while...

As for hub gears, I love the idea in principle, but the whole thing about shifting while not pedaling and having to use a grip shift (based on Ryan Duzer's comments anyway) puts me off.

It's the same with belt drive - "awesome! no more frickin' oil on the carpet!" but the reality is having to carry a belt around with you on a custom frame or customised frame and I put it back into the can't be arsed basket.

  • I lean it on its left side against the wall in the hallway, the paint there looks worse tbf. I don't use either shifter, my commute is flat and I don't need any other of the many gears I have covering a massive range.

  • Nice I recognised the last bit up to Farthing Down! What was the rest of the route?

  • Glad you liked it. Rest of the route here

Check out this route on Strava: https://strava.app.link/llijZELpBfb — Grrrr.... ravel: North downs way loop

  • It is. I like your Rapture ;)

  • Yeah, there were three of us for one day as another friend came to join for a day trip.

I was against the idea as well but you can set it up with a bar end shifter. And when you’re averaging 10mph on a ride it’s not like not pedalling for a second to change gear is going to be a problem, haha! You can also change gear when you’re stopped which, for someone like me who falls off regularly, is great ;)

He was riding more of a drop bar MTB though, so probably made more sense to have a hub gear on that.

  • I hope no one minds the cross post from the 'any questioned answered' but I've had the 1 x vs 2 x debate for a sort of cross bike but wanted to gauge opinion on the set-up, particularly Middleburn Ro2 cranks, here goes: ...... I'm tempted to run Ultegra R8000 shifters/long cage rear mech with Deore cassette for a 1 x setup using a Middleburn RO2 chainset. Is it wrong/will it work? Any opinions on a new Ro2 chainste/crankset also gratefully received. I'd run it with a 48 chainring, ideally a Specialities TA Syrius but thats not set.... Yours sincerely, etc etc

  • 1x with a 48t chainring would give really big gears! Ultegra long cage can only go up to 34t cassettes IIRC

You could use a GRX rear derailleur and a 46t cassette - not officially supported, but it works.
