I guess that’s the thing. If you’re trying to run lights and power your phone and gps all at the same time I imagine your use is different. All i want is something to charge a power bank during the day on flats or downhill.

You can't run USB shit and decent lights at the same time. Lights at night, charge powerbank during the day.

lol i run nearly that combo. 38mm schwalbe g-ones on a lb wr38 rim which is 25 internal, 32 external, and 38mm deep.

TBF it is 25mm internal, rather than 38mm internal (!!)

I've run 32 on 25 internal, would I run 28 on them. Probably give it a whirl. I bottled it on getting 30 or 35 internal for my 650b set as 25 was cheaper. But tire wise for off road I'm currently at wider is better mental space.

Are cross bikes more fun to ride on gravel than modern gravel bikes now?

How many gears or how wide are the internal diameter of the rim does fun have?

I personally think narrower tyres are more fun, I haven't ridden anything >35mm and considering downsizing to 32/33 now that it's muddier

Interesting. These are my thoughts. Plus considering head tube angle, as I’m not a fan of the slack trend.
I like the look of your Forme. I’m not familiar with cross frames. What else is our there? Kinesis?
Ideally I want lightweight. Steep HTA. Clearance for 700x42/650x50. Can take a double.

For steel frameset, is it better to keep all the screws in even unused (e.g. triple fork mounts, attachment for derailleur housing when singlespeed, bottle cage mounts) to stop water and mud from entering the frame, or leave the holes open so frame can dry out easier inside?

I would say better to have them in. The frame will probably have breather holes in the stays and bottom bracket shell as well as holes between tubes to let it all breathe

I bottled it on getting 30 or 35 internal
I've got 33 on my MTB and I'd say they're too wide for the 2.35" tyres they've got on them as the carcass is wider than the tread.

I used to have nylon blanks to cap holes in my bike. If you leave the threads open they get rusty, bolts are fine but may seize over time.

I've seen these mentioned/used on here before. Seem like a neat way of plugging the holes, though I appreciate it's not an answer to your actual question.

Bolts in, with a thin layer o grease

I think most cross frames can take up to 700x40 these days. I was looking at the Kinesis, but also CAADX, trek crokett, probably many more..
I agree with steeper angles though, I always feel gravel bikes are a bit sluggish for my taste, very stable, but that is not always a good or fun thing
