  • Whyte have been doing the short-stem shallow-ht-angle thing for a while ... and they handle really well.

It does look weird to roadies. But if you dial the rake and trail what are your really missing? The ability to tuck into a pace line? That’s not very important to most gravy peddlers.

  • Stop many bikes with wheel covers in the early 90s off the back of that. Didn't see one of those Tioga wheels until last year though at The Pros Closet.

  • They don't seem that slack at 70 degrees compared to the Evil Chamois Hagar at 66.8 and 68 of the Nordest posted on the last page.

  • 2 things will happen in cycling in the next 5 years

Road bikes will get long, low and slack
    Cross-country bikes will get aero

  • Peak Tomac would feature drop bars, Raliegh carbon/titanium frame, Manitou shocks, Tioga disc rear wheel, a peaked helmet, Oakleys and a goatee. That's what I aspired to, anyway. Got as far as the goatee, Oakleys and helmet peak.

  • Sure. I mention it as context. These bikes with 68° are a part of a progression of sorts. Whyte have had 70° cross/gravel bikes in their range for 4 years now I think and 70° is mental to me ;-)

  • cries in the corner riding a road bike with a 71° HTA

    ;-)

  • They've got a long way to go until they get to Grim Donut territory.

  • I put on some Specialized roubaix 2bliss 32c on my Exploro and basically fell in love with the fatter tyres. So my only "problem" is weight. I really do want to get the bike as low as possible, since I'm using it as a road bike as well.
Came across the Rene Herse/Compass tyres. Their 32c Extralight tyre has a claimed weight of 254 g., which sounds incredible really.

Has anyone tried Rene Herse? Does Extralight thing mean that the tyre will puncture a lot and will wear out really really fast ?

  • I've got an Open Wide which is pretty slack (69). I like it. Great fun on single track.
I ride it with a 110mm stem tho.

I'm no 'internet geometry guru' like you lot tho.

  • I’ve been having the same thought, they now do the salsa cowchippers in 52cm width!

  • The number of bidons had me really stressed up until 3:35

  • 0:30 and I thought, is this the South Downs video again?
Pretty sick landscape, wish I had watched it with no sound.

  • A video that seems to be self aware, but somehow is still cringy.

  • I'm looking at converting a small mountain bike into a drop barred cross bike with big tyre clearance.

Looking at the geo I should be able to get the same position on a 16" mountain bike frame as my 58cm cross bike. Obviously handling will be mountain bike, and I'll have to find a really long seatpost, but anything else to look out for?

  • Why not buy this or similiar?

  • A video about going nowhere really fast..

  • Do I recognise that gorge from the last scene of Boyhood?

  • Oooooooooooooooo

  • No, never... You should arrive nowhere fashionably late

  • It's probably going to be slacker so look at getting something with a longer top effective toptube, and running it with a shorter stem to compensate as it'll feel very lazy otherwise.
